5 profile tips to stand out from the crowd

5 profile tips to stand out from the crowd

Introduction

My peers always ask me this: "Karl, why do you go through the trouble of keeping your LinkedIn profile up to date in three languages", "Are endorsements important?", "Should I get my skills acknowledged by connections?", "How long should be my biography?" and many more questions. Today I will give you 5 tips that helped me reach the "All-star" profile rank.

As you might know, to reach "All-star" you have to meet certain criteria, in fact, 7 steps are needed, I will give you 5 tips that build on top of these, to read more on the "All-star" profile click here.

1. Multi-language profile

This tip is essential if you speak multiple languages, in my opinion, it is my obligation to deliver information about me in all of the languages that I know, if a recruiter looks at my profile and it says that I speak Italian, German and English why not enable them to read my profile in one of those three?

2. Recommendations

Even if you did not attend an "important school" or were an employee at a "big company" you should still invest the time to think about people that taught you and who could write a few words about how the interaction between you and them went. This also applies to ex-colleagues or ex-employers.

3. Education

Make sure to go into detail in all aspects concerning your education, add all schools that you have attended with a description for each one of them. This is important for future recruiters that will need to get insight into your education.

4. About section

In your about section, you can express yourself freely without sticking to the strict character limit of posts, talk about your hobbies what you like about your expertise and your past achievements, you can also use emojis.

5. Post content regularly

One of the most important aspects of LinkedIn is being discovered and to achieve this posting regularly with content that resonates with your following dramatically increases engagement and thus increasing the likelihood that a recruiter finds you and connects with you. Just find what format works for you both in content and in regularity (if you like videos but know that you will not be able to post 3+ videos a week, you should opt for posts or articles).

Conclusion

Most LinkedIn users I stumble upon on a daily basis are not leveraging the potential of their profile page. Make sure to cover the basics with these 5 simple tips and start growing your network and finding your next Customer, Employer, Partner and more on LinkedIn!
