5 practical lessons I learned from my mom.
My mom was an awesome single parent, who worked in a factory, and passed away at 48 from brain cancer. Throughout my life she taught me many of my favorite life lessons.
#1Take Responsibility-
Nobody wants to work like a dog for $8/hour. We live in the age where it’s easy to say “Go follow your dreams and do what makes you happy.”
Doing what makes you happy doesn’t always put food on the table. Own your situation & work your ass off.
#2 Be proud of what’s yours-
You learn a lot more appreciation for things when you don’t have a lot. Mom wrote her name on every object she owned. Picnic table, note books, you name it.
Partly because she didn’t want to lose it but also she was proud that she owned it.
#3 Life’s not fair-
She battled health problems her whole life. A heart defect, kidney failure and brain cancer.
She taught me to never let your circumstances define who you are and what you can be. Worry about the things you can change. From there create your luck.
#4 Find the best in any situation-
Some of my greatest memories with my mom were in the final months of her life. We saw the writing on the wall, but we still found time to laugh, joke and reminisce. If you sulk you’re just wasting time.
#5 Just try it-
Mom was notorious for trying different things. When I was in elementary she wrote a hymn for our church... truthfully it wasn’t very good but I was proud of her for trying.
Use her example. Life is short & not worth having any “I wish I would have’s”
Those are the 5 practical lessons that I learned from my mom during the 20 years I was fortunate enough to spend with her.

3 年Love this!
This is great! I lost my Mom when I was 29. It changed me forever, but a change in perspective really blessed me. I learned the amount of time we will spend together in eternity is infinitely longer than what we will spend together on earth. This gave me great peace knowing I will be with her again. Thanks so much for sharing your story. You have no idea how many people you can help.
