Happy Monday!
If you are in the United States hopefully you are taking an extra day off today for a 4-day July 4th weekend, and if you are outside of the United States, I hope your week if off to a great start!
I had a blast on a mini-family trip last week to the eastern part of the United States, and while I tried to work on getting the newsletter out on time, I realized that sometimes you just need to completely unplug.
Being unplugged makes you also realize that it's OK to unplug from social media as well. In fact, it just might be a healthy decision, and allows you to re-engage with increased enthusiasm. If you haven't taken time off from social media recently, you owe it to yourself to do so!
I am looking forward to some international travel over the next weeks - if you are in Berlin or Tokyo please let me know so that we might be able to meet for a cup of coffee - or pint, whichever you prefer!
Now here's my recommended content for the week!

Others want their website to look more trustworthy. But now, LinkedIn is fighting back! They've developed an?AI that can detect fake profile photos with a 99% success rate ?and only a 1% chance of being wrong. According to one LinkedIn engineer, it really works!

FINRA might sound like a fancy organization, but it's actually just a group that watches over broker-dealers in the US. They're not-for-profit and work under the SEC's oversight. Basically, FINRA's job is to protect investors and make sure the markets are fair. That means they have to make sure ads for investment products are truthful and that records are kept properly. Since social media has become such a big deal for investing, FINRA has been issuing guidance on how to use it since 2010.?Even though social media is new, FINRA's communication rules still apply, and we'll tell you what that means for financial institutions.
Search Engine Optimization
When it comes to SEO, you have to stay ahead of the game! Old-school SEO is all about using keywords and topics that are directly related to your business. But here's the deal: everyone's doing that now, so it's not enough.?That's where tangential SEO comes in! ?This strategy is all about making content for topics that are kinda related to your business. It can help you reach new people who might not be interested in your stuff yet but could be in the future. Basically, tangential SEO helps you build your brand, become an expert, get more people on your site, and sell more stuff. If you're a content marketer or a business owner, you should keep reading!
If your marketing team is too busy or doesn't have the skills to handle SEO, you can outsource it! That means hiring a freelancer or agency to help you come up with a dope SEO strategy that gets people to your site.?Before you do that, though, think about what you actually want them to do.? Outsourcing SEO is a good option if you don't have the time or cash to train someone in-house. It's especially helpful for small teams or businesses on a budget. Freelancers and agencies who do SEO are really good at keeping up with changes in the game, so they'll make sure your strategy stays fresh.
Influencer Marketing
Having celebrities endorse stuff is old news. Today’s shoppers want real people with honest opinions, and social media is huge for that. The problem is, influencers can't get in touch with their followers outside of social media unless they have their emails. Plus, new laws give us more control over our personal information.?So marketers need to be careful where they get their data! ?It's better to collect your own first-party data, which is about to be worth a ton in advertising!
Want to get the word out about your client? Influencers can help! They already have an audience that trusts them, so if they tell their followers about your client, it's a win-win!?But sometimes, things go wrong and your team has to scramble. ?Here are some ways to make sure your influencer campaigns go smoothly - and how to fix stuff when it doesn't.
