5 Pointers on How to Set Goals and Not New Year's Resolutions
I was recently talking with my wife, Gloria, and as often happens, conversation turned towards our dreams and goals and plans for the future – living the life we are imagining.
Maybe you’re like us and your focus is starting to shift toward the coming New Year, with full expectation of what’s to come.
Let me assure you of one thing. Unless you are intentional about designing the life you want to live, it’s not going to happen. I think this is why Jesus used so many farming analogies when He was making a point to his disciples.
We Reap What We Sow
It should go without saying that if you’re doing what you’ve always done, why are you expecting different results? If all you sow are corn seeds; guess what? All you’re going to reap is corn!
Profound I know…
But why do we forget this when it comes to our lives? If you and I desire to live a fuller, more expansive life in 2020 and beyond, that’s something we have to be intentional about.
Here’s my challenge to you this week. With only a few days left in 2019, I want you to schedule some time to write down your goals for 2020 and beyond.
Here are a five pointers as to how you can actually set goals (not New Year’s resolutions) this year:
1. Schedule the time – Actually put goal setting on your calendar. Plan it like it’s an event. Set a day and time. Give yourself about 1 hour to do this exercise.
2. Imagine – Take some time at the beginning and imagine what your dream life would look like. Pray!
3. Jot it down – If it comes to mind; jot it down. Don’t worry about whether or not it is sounds too far-fetched or out of the realm of possibilities.
4. Don’t judge – Many times we judge our thoughts and find ourselves unworthy of living the life we can imagine. YOU ARE WORTHY! Write it down.
5. Put it into action – What is one thing that you can begin to do today, that if you do it will put you one step closer to living the life you can imagine?
I believe in you; I believe in your dream!!
Be blessed,
Chris Chandler
