The 5-Pillars of HAIbridCARE Organizations - Part 2

Thanks for reading NewHealthcare Insider with weekly strategic analysis and insight into the two transformative forces shaping healthcare: exponential technologies (AI, Genomics, Wearables), and Mobile/Retail/Home Healthcare Platforms. Don't forget to Subscribe and Follow!

Hello again friends and colleagues,

Last week, I reflected on my original Human-Centered Healthcare Platforms (HCHPs) framework and the predictions I made five years ago and introduced the concept of HAIbridcare, the next evolutionary step in healthcare organizations, that integrates Human values and AI capabilities as the foundation of a new healthcare model.

The pillars and strategies discussed below will likely sound as unachievable and unrealistically optimistic as the 5 Dimensions did five years ago. I relied on projection of organizational evolution from industries that are farther along in adopting Human/AI hybrid systems, and well-established technology development trends to project five years into the future. I expect that just like with the 5 Dimensions, some of the projections will not materialize but most will!

I. Human-Centeredness (including both patients and providers)

As we move toward HAIbridcare, prioritizing human experiences, relationships, and decision-making (HERD) will, more than ever, be crucial. NewHealthcare Platforms must create an environment that fosters empathy, collaboration, and shared decision-making, focusing on both patient and provider well-being.

Key strategies in this pillar include:

  • Designing care models that prioritize patient preferences: Delegating administrative, clerical and data gathering and analysis to AI, HAIbridcare will free providers to focus on building relationships and prioritizing the human aspects of the healing relationship.
  • Addressing provider burnout, mental health, and work-life balance: Promoting a healthy work environment, such as flexible scheduling, peer support programs, and mental health resources, will help address provider well-being.
  • Promoting empathy and communication: Incorporating healing human interaction training and skills in medical education and continuing education programs.

II. Deep Vertical Integration beyond care delivery

Healthcare organizations will expand their scope of services to address not only physical health but also mental and social well-being. By incorporating social determinants of health and health equity interventions, future healthcare platforms will be better equipped to serve diverse populations and improve overall well-being.

Key strategies in this pillar include:

  • Integrating primary care, specialty care, mental health services, and social determinants of health: Developing collaborative partnerships with community organizations and public health agencies will help address social determinants of health and create a comprehensive care approach.
  • Integrating Telehealth, Ambient Health Monitoring, and Real-time Interventions: Combined with regulatory frameworks which ensure patient privacy and data security will expand will promote adoption of proactive healthcare the constantly monitors and intervenes at the earliest sign of abnormality.

III. Proprietary Technology and Services

Developing proprietary technology and services as a way to maintain a lasting competitive advantage will be the key to enduring competitive advantage. Newhealthcare platforms must focus on innovation as the only source of differentiation in the age of HAIbridcare.

Key strategies in this pillar include:

  • Developing or licensing technology for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment: Investing in research and partnering with technology companies will accelerate the development of innovative healthcare solutions.
  • Investing in data and AI infrastructure to improve organizational and health outcomes: Data and AI capabilities will the foundation for optimizing operations, reducing costs, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Creating Healthcare Operating Systems (HOS) to deliver seamless, integrated care: Creating the Data/Software/User Experience systems that seamlessly integrated Human and AI care delivery and provide a unified experience for patients, families, and care givers to access and manage healthcare will be the core value-creation enabler of HAIbridcare Organizations.

IV. Global Scale

The costs and competitive advantage of creating Healthcare Operating Systems, and the exponential Data/AI positive reinforcing feedback progress loop will create demand and enable global scale to fund and extract value from HAIbridcare Platforms.

Key strategies in this pillar include:

  • Expanding operations and services to global markets and populations: Collaborating with local governments and global partners will help HAIbridcare Organizations navigate diverse regulatory environments and expand reach.
  • Adapting care models to diverse populations: Develop healthcare solutions that cater to different cultural, social, and economic contexts to effectively address the needs of a global population.
  • Cultivating a global workforce: Train and support healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds to foster a global network of skilled providers who can address the unique healthcare needs of populations around the world.

V. Unified Intervention Systems

The development of Unified Intervention Systems that span all care delivery channels, from digital to home to retail to facility, and all aspects of care, from physical to mental to social to equity, is essential for the success of HAIbridCare Organizations.

Key strategies in this pillar include:

  • Investing in data and technology standards: To manage the complexity of HAIbridcare platforms, organizations will have to develop standards to promote modularity and interoperability.
  • Encouraging multidisciplinary care teams agility: Implementing communication standards and workflows that support HAIbridcare.
  • Promoting interdisciplinary research on integrated care interventions: Encourage and support interdisciplinary research collaborations that investigate the integration of physical, mental, and social interventions in healthcare. This includes fostering partnerships between experts in various fields such as medicine, psychology, sociology, public health, and health economics to development innovative and holistic care models that address the complex interplay of factors affecting an individual's overall health and well-being.

I'm hopeful that the 5-Pillars of HAIbridCare will offer a promising roadmap for the future of healthcare, where human values and AI capabilities are seamlessly integrated to deliver exceptional care, and will catalyze discussions and actions to accelerate the arrival of a better global health and wellness future.
