5 People Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu Single-Handly Put in Power

For more than 20 years, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has controlled politics in Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria. He is now running for the country’s presidential seat in the 2023 elections.?

Tinubu may have an advantage over several rivals due to his extensive political network, penchant for striking deals, and vast personal wealth.

He’s been credited with social and economic development that has occurred in Lagos in the last 20 years. Some people believe that since he left office, he has also ensured that the state is led by progressive governors.

As a former two-term governor of Lagos State, Tinubu enjoys widespread support and is referred to as the "Jagaban of Lagos."

Here are 5 people Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu single-handly put in power

1. Babatunde Raji Fashola?

Babatunde Raji Fashola became Ahmed Tinubu's successor in 2007 after he left office. He was in charge of putting in place the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Lite System, which transports people in large buses along designated bus lanes.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu cited Fashola as his best accomplishment in an interview.

Replying to that Fashola said, “I think how I became governor is public knowledge. Nothing could put pressure on me than the commitment in pursuit of his decision in 2006 that I was the candidate he was endorsing for governor and the cost in terms of stress, disagreement, fights and long-draw emotional arguments. Of course, immediately after I won the election, the biggest pressure was to ensure that I didn’t regret the decision.”

2. Akinwunmi Ambode?

Before the Lagos APC governorship primary in 2014, only a few people were familiar with Ambode with his roles as the state's accountant-general during Babatunde Fashola's administration and a permanent secretary at Tinubu's ministry of finance.

But by the time he officially announced his quest for governor on October 24, 2014, he was already known as "the man with the backing of Tinubu"; this was all he needed to start his campaign to succeed Fashola.

Ambode comfortably won the election defeating more popular opponents than him, such as an active senator and the speaker of the state parliament, in the APC governorship primary with the support of the party's leader, Ahmed Tinubu.

However, he was quickly ousted when he attempted to distance himself from Tinubu and his aspirations, and instead of allowing him to run on the APC ticket for a second term, Babajide Sanwo-Olu took his place.

3. Sanwo-Olu

The current governor, Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was also chosen by Tinubu, has received accolades for how he handled the COVID-19 outbreak in the state with the highest population density in the nation.

There were rumours that Mr Sanwo-Olu's second term ticket with the party wasn't guaranteed. However, he and his deputy, Femi Hamzat, have received Tinubu's support for a second term.

4.? Governor Dapo Abiodun

Adedapo Oluseun Abioun is a politician and businessman from Nigeria who currently serves as the governor of Ogun State after the All Progressive Congress won the general elections in 2019.

On June 2, in a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun, Tinubu stated that the APC did not want to provide Abiodun with the governorship ticket in the run-up to the 2019 elections.

“This one sitting behind me, Dapo, can he say he can be the governor without me? We were together at the MKO Abiola Stadium, he was intimidated, they didn’t want to give him the party’s flag. I was the one that handed the flag to him. He knows that he cannot be the governor without the help of God and my support.”

5. President Muhammed Buhari

Ahmed Tinubu also noted that he is the reason Buhari is the president during the meeting with his delegates.?

He pointed out that Buhari called him to be his vice president because he has never lost an election before. And prior to then, Buhari has been losing due to the previous vice president he chose.

“He knew all the calculations then favoured us, that was why he wanted me as his vice, but I told him to let us build the party first. And when we finished building the party, after we brought in people from the PDP, Saraki now saw that those from the PDP will not get anything if Buhari, a Muslim, becomes the president and me, also a Muslim, becomes his vice, he won’t get the senate president and the senate president cannot also be a Muslim, that was how they started the campaign of calumny against me.”?

That was how Yemi Osinbanjo was nominated as the vice president, eventually leading to the win of Buhari as the President.?

However, the Presidency, recently replied to the claim of Tinubu saying that it was Nigerians that brought about Buhari’s victory not Tinubu?
