Let’s explore some obvious truths related to your career. But first, let’s clarify the definition of the word “obvious”:?
Obvious: [adjective] easily seen or understood; evident.?
It’s crucial to distinguish between “obvious” and “assumptions” or “myths”.
Assumption: A thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof.
Myth: A widely held but false belief or idea.
As a Career Coach (and former recruiter), over the past two decades, I've engaged in countless conversations with professionals from diverse fields, levels, and countries about their careers.
Here's a glimpse into the most common assumptions and myths related to careers:
1 - A linear career trajectory (pursuing a degree and staying in the same field for years) guarantees success.
2 - Settling on a career path early in life and forever finding fulfillment without change is how things should be.
3 - There is no point in bothering to change to a new job, because you will find problems and things you don’t like in any job - so is it better to stay where you are now?
4 - Keeping personal and professional lives separate is feasible and desirable.
5 - Work serves solely to pay bills. Anything related to growth, fulfillment and purpose should be achieved in different areas, like for example,? doing a volunteering project.
Now, let’s uncover the 5 overlooked realities about your career you might be neglecting:
1 - Career priorities evolve over time.
What you expect from the company you work for, from your manager, clients, projects, and even salary, will most likely evolve as you evolve too. What satisfies you today may not satisfy you in the future. A job that was a great fit for you might seem boring and limited some years later. A new manager can completely change the work environment and change your perception about it.
2 - External perceptions can deceive.
A career that looks great from the outside can feel totally different from the inside. A prestigious title or employer doesn't guarantee job satisfaction. Only you can really know your needs, and if your job provides them or not.
3 - Money matters, but it’s not everything.
The significant number of C-Level executives and leaders who reach out to me on a weekly basis to hire my services because they want a career change confirms that. Their bank account is doing great, but they seek other things such as making an impact, feel they are using their time in a meaningful way and growing.?
4 - Career development doesn’t need to sacrifice life-balance.

It’s true that some people work 60 or even more hours per week, but luckily, this is not the only way to develop your career and be successful at what you do. There are ways to excel in your career while enjoying life beyond work.
5 - If a job is costing you your health (physical or mental), the price you are paying is way too high.
Feeling occasionally unmotivated is normal, but persistent physical or mental health issues (including? having symptoms such as constant anxiety, stress, panic attacks, insomnia, or even depression) signal a need re-evaluate your career.
The journey to a fulfilling career isn't always straightforward, but it's worth every twist and turn.
It is possible? to turn your career aspirations into reality.? If you're seeking guidance, support, or simply a fresh perspective on your career path, I invite you to fill up this form and let's talk.
