5 NLP techniques for Success - Part I
What is NLP?
NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is a Psychotherapy based success technology, co-founded by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. NLP uses language patterns and metaphors to communicate with the subconscious mind.
Neuro – How we experience and represent the world through our five senses and our neurological processes
Linguistic – The way the language we use shapes and reflects our experience of the world
Programming – Training ourselves to think, speak and act in new and positive ways, in order to reach our maximum potential
NLP is a Science and an Art, and a technology for modelling success!
NLP Techniques for Success
As NLP was invented by modelling the behaviors of Successful people in their field, it also shares the framework or strategy for creating success in one’s life. In this 5 part series of short LinkedIn articles we will explore the 5 NLP techniques for creating success.
In this part we are going to talk about:
Technique 1: Reframing
There is no Failure only Feedback! ~ NLP Presupposition
Many a time it happens in our life when we start to set out on our journey on the course of reaching the goal of becoming the person we want to be; we face some inner challenges of doubts, disbelief, negative thoughts and fears.
Before we even make a plan to take the journey of getting towards our success we must take care of ‘the inner-game’ by finding the correct ‘map’ and ‘compass’ that will guide us to the right way!
What is Reframing?
Reframing is changing meaning of a situation, context or picture by putting it in a different frame. Human beings are meaning making machines. We learn giving meaning to things, experiences and behaviors from an early age from our culture, experiences and ‘significant others’ in life. The frame in which we look or place things decides the meaning we attach to our response to it in future.
Reframing & Success
The reason why reframing becomes an important foundation skill for Success is because of the reason that 95% people don’t even start as they have a ‘Fear of rejection’ or a ‘Fear of Failure’.
NLP teaches us to reframe failure to a feedback. Every failure is an opportunity to learn we must look for ‘Fail safe, Fail Fast’ opportunities and we call them I.F.F. – Intelligent Fast Failure!
5 Tips for Reframing
1. Think, what went well in a situation?
2. What do you learn from it?
3. How will you feel about the situation 20 years from now?
4. What are the steps that your Future Self will be thanking you for taking now?
5. Every break through is a break-within, every problem is a moment of resilience

“Success is not final, Failure is not Fatal: It is courage to continue that counts” ~ Winston Churchil
