The beginning of a year is always a favourite time for everyone to build and revisit their health resolutions. Even without going over any data and a structured survey, we can safely assume that most resolutions lose their fizz within the first week of January or by February at the most. Without focusing on the hows and whys, here are five goals everyone should consider.
Include general checkups in your calendar
It is shocking to realize many folks postpone their regular visits to the doctor just because they don’t find the time, nor do they consider it important. Many chronic diseases can be managed by modifying lifestyles and detecting them early.
Discuss mental health to break the stigma
People often forget that one’s mind can also tire just as one’s body. Suffering from depression or tiredness or insomnia is now as common as a cold so getting the necessary help is important. If you are hesitant to seek an appointment with a counselor or a psychiatrist, start with your general practitioner.
Hydrate the right way
We are not discouraging you from drinking fresh juices. But, they can never be a substitute for water. Many prefer fruit juices with a lot of sugar, thus packing thousands of calories which could lead to potential weight gain and the maladies that come with it. As for the coffee aficionados, we understand how your day is incomplete without it but moderation should be key.
Daily dose of exercise
Your body needs about 150 minutes of brisk walking a week, according to the World Health Organisation. Pack it in your daily schedule by taking walk-meetings, using stairs and taking short breaks between work. Remember, beginning with 30 minutes of brisk walking is equal to a 3,000-meter run.
15 minutes of ‘me-time’
Whether it’s meditation, listening to music, playing with your children or just entertaining idle thoughts it’s important to give yourself the space to recharge so take as many time-outs as you need.
In a nutshell, it’s all about setting realistic goals and incorporating them in your daily routine.
