5 Most Important Reasons to Offer Employee Well-being at Work

Work plays a crucial part in our lives and not just in providing a source of income. It can give us a sense of purpose and achievement and boost our self-esteem, as well as an opportunity to socialize and build friendships with our colleagues.

While you are reading this article, there are employees all over the world saying at this very second phrases like "I haven't got up from my desk all day today", "I'm exhausted", "I can't take so much pressure anymore" or "I'm super stressed about work".

Studies show that 87% of employees consider their job to be the most stressful factor in their lives, which influences not only their mental but also physical health.

Working can sometimes have a negative effect on our health, but it can also have a very positive one as well. Fostering employee well-being is good for people and the organization. Promoting well-being can help prevent stress and create positive working environments where employees and organizations can thrive.

When done correctly, well-being programs give employees incentives, tools, social support, and strategies to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors.

A good well-being program:

Anyone who still thinks well-being programs don’t improve health is choosing to completely ignore hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific research papers that say otherwise.

In 2001 a Harvard review on the?financial impact of worksite well-being programs?was published. That study alone reviewed 100 different research papers.?

Among the 22 different studies that looked at well-being programs and healthcare costs, the average return on investment was 3.27. This means that for every dollar that was spent on the program the company saved $3.27 because of reduced healthcare costs.
