5 Monday Bullets (#4 - "Big Picture")

Welcome to 5 Monday Bullets - my weekly recap with a focus on Self-Reliant Leadership?. Thank you for being here.

1. What I'm observing ?with regards to challenges, issues, problems and opportunities:

Strategy...

The big picture stuff that's part of the framework of Self-Reliant Leadership?:

  1. The exec team has to be on the same page with vision and mission. Most are not - by a long shot...
  2. The values have to be tied to?observable?behaviors (it’s the only way to coach/performance manage). Most are not - by a long shot... Values always come down to four things: 1) Do your BEST (work ethic); 2) Do what’s RIGHT (moral & ethical); 3) Treat others the way you would like to be treated (dignity & respect); and 4) Produce results that are both qualitative and& quantitative.
  3. Once the?strategic?objectives are prioritized, the big levers to create culture by design (versus default) are: People | Incentives (what gets praised and punished) | Structure | Processes/Systems. Most levers are not pushed or pulled with consideration to the "system..."
  4. Once the above is set, work on the tactical stuff: How you COMMUNICATE | How you MEET | How you DEBATE | How you DECIDE. Most of the time these are only addressed when conflict occurs and emotions are high...
  5. The last ingredient- which ties to incentives... is to formalize individual & team rewards & recognition - and take the ambiguity out of what it takes to perform at the highest level. Most engagement surveys show a lack of appreciation...

2. Most interesting article I read this week:

Why Is the Loneliness Epidemic So Hard to Cure? Maybe because we aren’t thinking about it in the right way.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/27/magazine/loneliness-epidemic-cure.html

"There may be bumps, hurdles and obstacles, but as is the case with Cacioppo and Hawkley’s evolutionary theory, those bumps could be part of the learning process, the adaptation process. Part of the drive that forces us together."

3. Question or Quote of the week:

“If we went out as individuals, not everyone would have made it to the top. Because we went out as a team, and approached it as a team, we all made it.”

Just DM me your receipt, and I will send you the link and a coupon code to get it free!
