5 minutes art exercises. Creative way of stress relief.

5 minutes art exercises. Creative way of stress relief.

A couple of days back Namita Narkar, a healthcare marketing professional, and I were talking about the benefits of art as therapy.?

It's a known fact that creating art can minimize anxiety and lift up the mood. There are many studies that support this fact.

Yet, we as adults make a huge deal out of it and use our work and busyness as an excuse to pursue our hobby or creativity.

But the reality is that these things don’t really ask too much of your time.

You can always start with small.

If you have 5 minutes then I would love to share 3 exercises that will help your mind stop racing and calm down a little bit.?

Here is what you need?

1) A safe space where you can concentrate for 5-10 mins.?You can choose your workspace/ coffee table or your bed.?If you like, play some soft music too. It will get you in the groove.

2) Material -?Paper and pen/ pencil. Colors are optional but if you have them then great. If you have little ones then you can definitely find crayons, you can also use them, and it will be fun.?

Excercise one - Scribble?

When you feel overwhelmed and you are feeling extreme emotions?

This exercise makes no sense when you look at it, you might find it completely silly and that’s okay. Just trust me and give it a try.?

Take an A4 size paper?Start from a point then move your hand in an oval/circular motion. Don’t make a single shape but keep moving your hand in the same motion.?

Watch the demo video.?

Exercise two - Wavy Lines?

Untangle your thoughts by creating wavy line patterns?

  • To start with, take up a small piece of paper. E.g - 3x4 inches?
  • Make a dot on the paper.
  • Start making wavy lines from that point to the end of the paper.
  • Make a pattern out of it.?
  • Repeat the pattern in different directions.?

Sharing a real-time video, feel free to draw along.

Exercise three- Fill in the blocks?

  • Take up a small piece of paper, and make some intersecting wavy lines.?These lines will create shapes.?
  • Now fill these shapes with colors, lines, curves, and circles.?Feel free to bring your own creativity

You are welcome to draw along with me. :) :)?

I hope you had a good time doing these simple 5-minute art exercises.?

You can repeat them and even come up with more creative ideas for e.g. instead of paper you can create blocks and patter on your planters/ earthen pots.?

Also, go ahead and share these exercises with your loved ones so they can also get benefitted.?

I also conduct art therapy workshops for corporates and communities. For more details you can email me - [email protected]?
