5 Mindset Shifts for Busy Dads That Want To Get Back In Shape
When you want to achieve a goal you have not yet achieved most of the time the only thing stopping you is yourself.
The biggest shift you need to make is in your mindset.
When it comes to getting back into your best shape you mustn't cling to the past and what you used to do.
You need to let go of your old mindset and create a new set of beliefs...
1/ Focus On What You Can Do Not What You Can't.?
Most dads focus on the things they can't do anymore and as a result, they do nothing.?
Maybe you can't spend 2 hours at the gym 6 days a week or play football 3 times a week.?That doesn't mean you can't still get fit, and strong and lose weight and get in the best shape of your life.
It's just about finding a new method that works.?
Stop focusing on what you can't do or what you used to do.?
Start focusing on what you can do today!
That's how you move the needle forward.?
2/ It's Not What You Eat, It's How Much You Eat.?
Most people overcomplicate weight loss by going on crazy diets that are unsustainable and they end up restricting themselves too much by avoiding all of their favourite foods.?
And the problem with restriction is when you restrict something you want it more.?
Limitation Creates Desire.?
Look at advertisers...
They use limitation...
Sale Ends Tomorrow?
The price goes up at Midnight!!
These are just a couple of examples.
When you can no longer have something it creates urgency and a desire to want it more.?The same applies to your food.?Perhaps you like chocolate... I know I do.?Or you like to have a glass of wine.?Maybe you like to eat bread and pasta. And if you can't eat those things, you start to crave them more.?You could have all the discipline in the world, it will only get you so far.?
So the key here really is...
It's not what you eat, it's how much you eat. You can eat anything you want in moderation and never have to go on a fad diet again.?
3/ Stop Being A Human Dustbin
A good starting point to shifting a few pounds and eating less would be to stop being a human dustbin and finishing all your kids' leftovers. (I know, I do this too!)
I don't like to waste food and if you're like me you would have been brought up to finish your plate...
...and perhaps your parents would tell you stories of how there are people in the world that are less privileged than you and there are kids in Africa that are starving...
...which is all very true.
But those leftovers are no good to anyone.?
They are no good for your waistline and you're certainly not going to send leftover food to Africa.?

4/ Success Loves Speed
How long have you been thinking about getting fit and losing a few pounds? The average person procrastinates on this for about 2 years before they finally take action on their fitness goals. Imagine what you could have achieved in that 2 years if you took fast action. Just take the first step. Imperfect action is better than no action at all and there's never a perfect time.?
Or are you procrastinating on that workout? Telling yourself you'll don't later? And then life gets in the way and it never happens.?
When you're a busy dad you’ve got to move fast when there's an opportunity...
Don't procrastinate,?
Don’t overthink.
Success loves speed... Delay kills dreams!
5/ Be A Better Role Model
Do you see yourself as a role model to your children?
It's my hope that you do.
Your children are like sponges they copy what you do.?They copy the good, the bad and the ugly.?
They are a great reflection of us.?
And when it comes to exercise, you want to be showing your kids that you like to keep fit, and healthy and that you eat well.?
The opposite of that is you are a couch potato, eating Doritos and watching Netflix.
Don't be a lazy couch potato dad.
You don't want kids to see that because that's how they will become.?
You want to show them that you're a hard worker and a man who's got his s*** together.?
Harsh words but it's true.?
Don't see your fitness regime as something that excludes your family.?Many dads feel guilty about going to the gym because it's time away from their family. Get your kids involved.?Let them see you exercising... Do your push-ups, star jumps, and squats in the kid's bedroom as I do sometimes, and they will copy you.
Be the role model you want your children to become.
To conclude...
