5 million vapes thrown away every week
DIRECTOR'S NOTE?
"Disposable vapes are one of the hottest topics at the moment. We know the damaging effects these items can have on the environment if they're not disposed of correctly, so it's great to see the topic at the forefront of discussion. Hopefully this encourages businesses selling vapes to increase their efforts to educate consumers on the correct way to recycle their used vapes."

Potential disposable vapes ban as WEEE increases
Ministers are set to ban disposable vapes with the numbers rising to 5 million thrown away every week.
Following environmental and health concerns, the UK government is expected to ban the sale of disposable vapes in the UK. Recent studies have shown that the number of vapes purchased has doubled in the last year.?
Material Focus found that 5 million disposable vapes are thrown away every week in the UK - quadruple the number from 2022. Only 17% of people surveyed said they recycled their vapes at a local store or recycling point and 3% said they throw their vapes on the ground.
While there's no set timeline for the ban yet, it is expected by the end of the year. This is alongside the new Extended Producer Responsibility scheme which encourages producers to cover the costs of recycling their products.
