Life is hard. What's even harder?

Feeling regret because you think you took the wrong path in life.

TV, social media, societal role models, parents, culture, can't tell you what's the right path for you. This may sound like BS….but only you know deep down, and it can take years and years to figure out, and nobody has it all figured out.

Don't take the path that happens to be popular in the time period you were born in...

Choose the path you'll never feel sorry for taking.

I remember being in college and sitting in a mathematics class while pondering aimlessly what am I actually doing here?

The best way I can describe this experience is to imagine if your skin and entire soul were being actively melted by radioactive invisible ooze, that nobody can see or feel, but you.

It was these feelings and true pain that led me eventually to get off the path laid out for me by society, and begin soul searching, discovering, what really should I be doing?

It was terrifying.

However, looking back at this experience, here’s what I learned.

5 Takeaways to Find Your Path:

  • Make sure you are not falsely perceiving your career to achieve all of your needs and wants vs finding ways as an individual to meet your complex human needs and wants, in and out of work. I’ve met people who have terrible toxic bosses who make their careers miserable. I’ve met people who have unrealistic expectations of having the perfect career, right now. Watch out for this distinction.
  • The most important aspect is to be moving on the path. It doesn’t mean that you have to have “made it” or be making 6 figures in your dream career. It means you are aiming and firing at your goal consistently.
  • The biggest trap, especially for introverts is to overthink, over-contemplate, over-analyze until you are completely paralyzed inside out. In my life: Torture is defined as knowing what you should do, but not doing it, and seeing a bigger and bigger gap between whom you want to be vs what you are doing now.
  • If you have never thought about taking your own path, and are moving on a track unhappily, you probably didn’t pick that path yourself. Many parents / early childhood experiences may falsely tell you what you should be doing. As kids, we hear that and unconsciously internalize the narrative to be our own. I had a friend of mine who always told me “I want to be a doctor” and then he realized, actually he doesn’t, but it was the path groomed for him by his parents.
  • Your path isn’t 1 thing. Your path may look like starting a business for 3 years, and then become an employee at your friend’s startup, becoming a teacher, changing your career and becoming a musician, and then back to starting your own business. Don’t create the narrative that you should only do one thing. Be patient and realize it takes time to transform your life path.

Nobody has the answers. But, parts of you that may be hidden, and experiences you haven’t experienced yet.

Create systems that help you consistently learn more about yourself.
