#5 - Mastering Coordination: How Financial Planners Unite Experts for Business Success

In this article, I cover how we help our clients go from chaos to coordination by collaborating with all their other professional advisors—and how we can help you do the same.

One common frustration our business owner clients can experience is the difficulty of coordinating all the professionals involved in their life and business to ensure everything runs smoothly.

The frustration typically shows up in a few ways:

  • Time and Effort: Clients are often frustrated by the time, energy, and effort it takes to connect with all the professionals involved.
  • Communication Barriers: Another source of frustration is the need to act as both messenger and translator, especially when clients are not subject matter experts in a particular area.
  • Coordination and Coverage Concerns: This lack of coordination can leave clients questioning whether everything is being properly managed and nothing is overlooked, ensuring they are moving towards their financial goals as effectively as possible.

The issue often arises because there is typically no single advisor who owns the function of keeping all the professionals on the same page and aligned due to each professional focusing on delivering the best value in their specific area of expertise.

As financial planners, we are ideally positioned to stay updated about our clients' short-term and long-term goals, as well as their family and life events. Additionally, finding and connecting with the necessary professional advisors who might be needed but not yet identified can be daunting for business owners and clients. That's why we pride ourselves on being able to make introductions to those who will best serve their specific needs.

Here are some examples of the advisors that we collaborate with on behalf of our clients:

  1. Accounting: Includes tax preparers, accountants, and business CFOs.
  2. Legal: Comprises estate, corporate, and merger and acquisition attorneys.
  3. Protection: Consists of insurance and risk mitigation advisors.
  4. Private Banking: Includes lenders and bankers.
  5. Business Succession: Encompasses exit planners, investment bankers, business brokers, and business valuation analysts.

We partner with our clients to help quarterback the relationships with all these professional advisors.

While we rely on your subject matter expertise, we are likely the ones who have the best understanding of our client’s vision for themselves, their business, and their family. This gives us the perspective to help connect the dots of complexity to ensure that everything is aligned and optimized. Our efforts in managing these relationships allow us to identify questions that our clients may not even be aware of. This gives our clients their time back and allows us, as trusted professionals, to create strategies and solutions that deliver value.

Additionally, this helps the professional advisors because they may be able to get clear information coming from us, enabling them to focus on what they do best. Ultimately, everyone is working towards what’s in our client’s best interest. With us acting as the quarterback, we ensure that all parties can focus on the most effective ways they can add value and contribute to our client’s goals.
