5 Lessons From My First Week At Dooly

Week 1 is in the books at Dooly, and although the week has left my more tired from a week of work than I ever have been, it was also one of the most rewarding weeks I've ever had. I have always been a been fan of documenting the journey, so I wanted to share the Top 5 Takeaways I learned in my 1st week as a Dooligan.
Culture, Culture, Culture
This is a buzzword and everyone says they have a “Great Culture.” But there is a big difference between companies saying they have great culture, and showing that great culture. I have NEVER been pulled so quickly into the culture of a company.
Dooly’s culture is something I have never seen before, and it starts with the industry’s best leadership, and world-class employees who are willing to step out of your work, and help you succeed. Everyone believes in everyone’s success as it makes the company better, and that resonates in every department in the company.
Learn, Ask Questions, and Document
“Drinking from a firehose” is a common phrase we have all heard when starting from a new job, but I see it as jumping on a moving treadmill, and you don’t have a choice but to catch up! In order to be successful, you need to learn as much as you can about the company and how it operates so you can seamlessly jump into that process. The way you find that information out is asking a ton of questions, and documenting it in a way that helps you fill in the gaps of your understanding.?
Working Cross-Functionally
In working at Vidyard and previous conversations with my friend Darrell Amy, I learned that a startling amount of companies do not have cross-functional alignment between departments (specifically in Sales/Marketing alignment).

Everyone at Dooly knows the importance of cross-functional work, and already in Week 1, I have been heavily engaged with not only Michelle, Saad, and the sales team, but with Ellie’s incredible CS team, Mark, Camille and the Marketing, as well as with Margaret who heads our Product Data team. Everyone needs to be rowing in the right direction, and cross-functional work is a key to that!?
Don’t Assume Anything
Everyone knows the phrase, “Don’t Assume, because it makes an… etc.,” but this week was a great reminder to not make assumptions on what people may or may not know.
A great example of this was starting at the same time as Julie, who recently left her teaching career, and is brand new to the SaaS world, and terminology that is common in SaaS like ACV and ARR is a foreign language. It made me think about working with customers, we have to remember that even though we work with our product every single day, we can’t assume that our customers know our lingo, and it starts with not making assumptions.?
Eye-Opening Product
I knew of Dooly as the tool that can help with Pipeline reviews and something about helping input data into Salesforce, but there were so many “Wow, I wish I knew this sooner.” I will start making videos of those “wow” products so that you can see it firsthand for yourself!?
So many lessons learned in just 1 week, I can't imagine how much will happen in the weeks, months, and years to come! The best news of all? We are hiring! Send me a message if you are interested, and I am happy to point you in the right direction!
