Oye Firangi. You don’t expect this from your wife especially after 20 years of marriage. Then I realized she was talking about watching Kapil Sharma starer Oye Firangi. I said “Yes Boss”. What else can you say? You have option of saying other things but people with first-hand experience know the risks involved.
I was determined that I will not write about Firangi because I was expecting it to be a typical Kapil Sharma movie but this one was unexpected. It is a sweet movie that surfaced certain aspects of leadership that I could not resist. Here are the 5 Leadership Lessons from #OyeFirangi
1. Skill sets the stage
Everyone has a unique skill. Skill does not guarantee Leadership. However a unique skill can set a solid stage for one to be a Leader.
Kapil was uneducated and jobless guy. He had one unique skill – curing a backache by kicking the backside. This skill got him his dream job from where he could kick start.
2. Designation brings attention
Designations are deceptive. Designations do not reflect the job being done by the individual. However designations have great social value. Designations help influence people using indirect authority.
Kapil took the designation of policeman but was polishing shoes, washing cars and what not. Still people listened to him and believed him because of his uniform.
3. Confidence Influences
When you are closer to decision makers, you can influence decision making. This influencing capability does not come only from authority, this comes from confidence of the individual.
Kapil became confident after transitioning into the job. Based on his confidence he was able to influence the villagers for talks with King.
4. Deception triggers Leadership
Philosophy says that Boss is always right. You believe in the philosophy until you see the big picture yourself. Many leaders experience deception and get disillusioned. This is the trigger point of Leadership.
Kapil experienced deception and saw the big picture. The big picture changed his views towards British job and Freedom movement.
5. Purpose strengthens Leadership
Deception triggers, still those who decide to do something about it, only those become Leaders. Purpose is the most important pillar of Leadership. Purpose gives strength to stand on the shaky ground and garners support from the stakeholders.
Kapil stood for a cause. People joined willingly unwillingly. His foolish act could have got him killed, however director saved the day.
Summary
Despite Firangi being a good movie, my wife was disappointed with the movie because there was no Kapil Sharma in it. Kapil Sharma deceived by playing character of Mangiram. I confidently influenced her that I should not be kicked for the expectation mismatch. She listened to me because of me being a designated husband. I am using my unique skill to write this experience. To sum up, if one has a purpose, one can find lessons everywhere.
