5 Keys to Stop Overthinking

It would be amazing if we were always overthinking the good and happy things in our lives but unfortunately most of the time it is the bad in our lives because if the human brain is left to its own devices, it will always go toward the negative. The good thing is that it can be fixed because just as you are in control of your limbs, you are in control of your brain.?

You just need to become more intentional about your thought patterns.?


Develop self-awareness

You have to develop the awareness of what it is that you're overthinking. What are you focusing on the most that is making you overthink??

You need to develop the self-awareness of what puts you into the state that you don't want to be in. When you're self-aware you can start to bring yourself out of the states very, very quickly.

I'm not saying that you won't go back into the state, but being self-aware will help you bring yourself out of the state whenever you need to.


Stop trying to be so perfect

Stop comparing yourself to everyone else that's around you. If you're comparing yourself to people on Instagram you're never going to feel good about yourself. What you have to fall in love with is being perfectly imperfect and appreciate the imperfections.

You will then start appreciating others' imperfections and appreciating the imperfections of everything around you. This is a wonderful place to be because suddenly you become not so judgemental about yourself and others.


Stop trying to control everything

If you try to control everything from this moment forward, you're going to ruin a lot of relationships. You're going to ruin your business and your life is not going to be what it could be.?

You have to learn just to accept the unknown, learn to just be okay at this moment. Let everything happen in the time that it's supposed to happen.


Put your life into perspective

You should be grateful for your challenges. Look how far you've come.?

25,000 people will die today alone from starvation. You were able to eat breakfast this morning. You're going to have lunch. You're going to have dinner and you're probably not wondering how you are going to feed your family.?

You woke up today? 150,000 people died yesterday. Think about all the other little things you have to be grateful for.


Have a plan

When you notice yourself slipping into a bad state, that's when you pull your plan out. You need to develop that plan now, not then when you find yourself overthinking because when emotion is high, logic is low.

It could be like next time you find yourself overthinking you decide to close your eyes and take six deep breaths into the nose, out through the mouth and focus on one person or one thing that you can be grateful for.


The idea is to change the way that you feel based on being intentional and to pull yourself out of overthinking. If you get in a zone from working out then do just that. Do 50 pushups or go for a run. If music is your thing, remove yourself from your negative space and listen to an old favorite. You need to take a moment to reset.


Bring some more intention into your life, give yourself some love, and most importantly, try not to overthink these 5 steps!
