5 Key Strategies for Personal Motivation...

Feeling stuck and uninspired?


It's the last week of January and you'd be forgiven for feeling a little deflated, after all the energy of fireworks and magic sparklers you probably had at the beginning...

  • Has the excitement of attending the gym worn off?
  • Has the journal you had by your bedside fallen under the bed?
  • Have you stopped meditating each morning, evening, during lunchtime?
  • Are the cold showers and powerful breathing techniques now a pain?
  • And is your vision board lost among a sea of other papers and bills?

Yeah.... I feel you. I love the joy and excitement of the new year but let's be honest, it takes more than buying an expensive journal and pen to keep us on the motivational path of enlightenment to our dream life.

OK so truth bomb: Personal motivation is the driving force behind achieving your goals and fulfilling your potential. It's the Ying to your Yang. The thing, the zing that sparks your passion and propels you towards your aspirations.

However, finding personal motivation can be a challenging journey, (trust me, I know) but with a little magic dust called the right tools and a little application and belief known as your mindset, it is possible to achieve.

Here are 5 key strategies to get you back on track and provide much needed inspiration.

  1. Setting clear and achievable goals : Having a clear understanding of what you want to achieve provides direction and purpose. Set yoursself SMART goals - specific, measurable and time-bound goals that are challenging yet achievable and relevant to your goal. This will enhance your sense of purpose and direction and keep you focused on your journey.
  2. Identifying your values and passions : By understanding what is important to you and what you are passionate about, you will be far more motivated to achieving them. I'm always banging on about your values and passions, as they are a reflection of who you are and what you stand for. By aligning your goals with your values and passions, you will find that your motivation increases and you are more committed to achieving your goals.
  3. Developing a growth mindset : A growth mindset is the belief that you can learn and improve through effort and perseverance. By embracing challenges and viewing them as opportunities for growth and learning can help you stay motivated even when there may be setbacks and obstacles.
  4. Building a supportive network : If you didn't know this already, by surrounding yourself with people who believe in you and support your goals, will give you a feeling of being hugged and encourage you to keep moving. These people can be friends, family, mentors or coaches. They will provide you with a sounding board for your ideas and will help you stay accountable and motivated on your journey.

Caveat on this one: It helps if they're peers, professsionals or colleagues that you trust and have either experienced what you have or are doing better than you so can guide you through. Well meaning friends and family do not always have your best interests at heart so just be aware of this.

Take care of yourself...        

5. Practicing self-care : Taking care of your emotional, physical and mental well-being can help you maintain the energy and focus needed to stay motivated. Make sure to get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise regularly (even a daily walk in the fresh air is good). Also take time for activities that bring you joy, as well as for quiet time to reflect (washing dishes is a great mindfulness technique you can practice).

Final thoughts...        

Remember to celebrate your accomplishments so far. The small wins all add up to get you to the jackpot! Acknowledge your progress and give yourself credit for everything you've achieved so far. Celebrating your successes will help boost your confidence and keep you motivated on your journey. Ultimately, it's the journey that matters more than the destination so please give yourself time and recognition to enjoy it!

Personal motivation lies within us all, like happiness, and you don't need to search far to find it. By adding even one of the above, you'll already start to feel more inspired and ready for action. Something I always hold in my mind is the thought, I am always motivated and taking action to live from my future, not to it.

Go easy on yourself, one step at a time is all it takes.
