5 industries and their rendezvous with Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality has evolved with time, and several industries have realized its importance.
Augmented reality is a technology whose applications have been realized quite recently. A reason that AR is becoming so popular is its amazing ability to portray real-world situations on a user’s device and simulating real-world situations. This allows the user to experience the thrill that would have been possible only by physically reaching there. With several industries using AR in their workplace, here is a list that captures the top 5:
1. Education using augmented reality
Education is a necessity in human life, and families are more bent towards sending their child to schools and colleges that focus on being up-to-date with modern technologies. This is why the education industry is using the technology of augmented reality. Using this technology, schools can help their students take educational tours and to not have the need to go to that location geographically. Museums have started using augmented reality where people can wear AR headsets and learn about the history of monuments.
2. Healthcare
Healthcare industry is considered to be one of the most important industries, as it focuses directly on human health and well-being. With AR being used in this industry, surgeons can now focus on how to operate a person with lower risks as AR apps provide them with a 3D view. Using this 3D view of the part that needs to be operated, surgeons can focus on what is the cause and how that can be treated.
3. Marketing
Marketing is an industry that is focusing on bringing higher sales for clients. It is said, a company with correct marketing strategy has lower chances of failure; augmented reality is being used in the marketing industry too. Using this technique, companies can focus on allowing their target audience to experience several things. Coca-Cola once used a marketing strategy that involved AR where customers were given bottles that had labels which when scanned through a mobile camera, played music. This strategy majorly enhanced Coca-Cola’s sales.
4. Manufacturing
The manufacturing industry is an industry shaping our daily lives with the many objects it manufactures. With AR being used in manufacturing, employees can track where a specific object has been kept in a warehouse. This has led to reduced effort for employees and allowed them to focus on other tasks that would require more personalized attention.
5. Automotive
Automotive is one of the fastest growing industries currently. With the pace at which this industry is advancing, that newer technologies are being combined with it would not be shocking. Using AR in the automotive industry has allowed companies to provide their users with HMD (Head Mounted Display). The HMD enables drivers to know in advance the possibilities on the road and what actions they need to take. With the enhancement of features, see-through windshields would also be arriving, that will provide the drivers with crucial information about the traffic and the shortest route possible.
Despite having so many features, AR is evolving at a great pace. Developers have moved ahead of mobile devices and are searching for spheres where AR can be applied. With time, it will be interesting to watch how other industries make ample use of AR.

6 年As with most tech advances it’ll take the Jobs/Wozniak dynamic to guide them from their initial WOW impact gimmick into the hugely monetized must have item that will sustain itself and lead to additional advancements down the line . I'm currently experiencing it myself as I have the perfect idea for integration into my industry and have been gathering feedback for the last few years from some of the best minds available and they all agree that the time is ripe for launch ... now comes the tricky part .

6 年Whoever figures out how to use AR or VR to enhance the customer experience is going to win. I think we'll get there, it's just going to take some time and a lot of customer research. I do think AR has a huge advantage by the sheer number of AR capable devices there are thanks to companies like Apple and Google. I also see AR as a stepping stone to VR. Principles that we learn when designing AR experiences should translate well to VR.
We are currently developing AR solutions for engaging marketing experiences as well enhancing field service effectiveness. Apart from this we do see applications in education

6 年Great article! My take on AR is that while the technology itself has a huge potential, barring few industry, the current usage has been gimmicky and marketing oriented. To leverage the full potential of AR, industries need to understand the problem statement that they are trying to address and then develop platforms/solutions respectively. If we continue to use AR for feel-good marketing tactics, AR will loose its sheen in long run.
