5 INCREDIBLY USEFUL TIPS ON THE BEST RESUME FORMAT TO USE

When you’re looking to update your resume, there are all kinds of conflicting information regarding which is the best resume format or style to use. This leaves most job seekers wondering, “Who do I believe?”. I’m going to share a few tips today that will help you.

I NEED TO ASK YOU A QUESTION

Before I do that, I need to ask you a question. Are you getting interviews with your resume? If you are, then don’t change a thing.

However, if you are not getting interviews, it may be time to streamline your resume format and make it work better for you.

WHY YOU SHOULD BELIEVE ME

What qualifies me? With 21 years of coaching and employment service, I’ve been able to see what gets results and what doesn’t work. So many job seekers speak of the compliments they’ve gotten from employers on the resumes I’ve created for them.

The resume format I recommend is concise, clean and gets to the point. Ask any Human Resource manager and they will tell you to focus your resume format on the job you’re applying for and do it now!

TIPS FOR PICKING THE BEST RESUME FORMAT

#1. LOOK FOR A CURRENT BUT PROFESSIONAL STYLE

None of us want to look old or stand out in a bad way. Unless you’ve updated your resume style recently, you may end up looking like a dinosaur.

Your resume needs to be sharp and professional because most hiring managers won’t look at your resume initially for more than 6 seconds.

The best resume format will catch an employer’s eye so they’re curious to know more.

#2. IT WILL GET TO THE POINT QUICKLY

The best resume style will not read like an encyclopedia of information.

The purpose of the resume is to introduce you to the employer, not give your employment history from when you delivered papers as a child.

Including all your information serves to take the reader down a bunny trail, away from your greatest strengths.

Showing a consistent work history is possible without providing endless, unneeded detail.

FOR ADDITIONAL HELP WITH YOUR RESUME

#3. PROVIDES AN IMPRESSIVE SUMMARY ON THE 1ST PAGE

As a person that looks at resumes all day in and out, I can tell you that your resume format either emphasizes what you can do or hides it.

Here is how it goes…. I’m chatting with someone about what they want to do. I really love to do this because it is exciting to help people realize their dreams.

As I listen to what they want to do, I’m looking at their resume to find how they qualify for that particular job. Many times I’m straining to find those qualifications.

You don’t want an employer to strain to find how you are qualified for a job. Because they won’t!

#4. IT SHOULD DIRECT THE EMPLOYER’S ATTENTION

Using a functional or targeted style resume allows you to direct the employer’s attention where you want it to go. An effective resume format will in the top 2/3rd’s of the first page, allow the employer to see exactly how you qualify for their position.

If you are planning on a career change or want to apply to different types of jobs, this style of resume will work perfectly for you.

#5. PROVIDES A ROADMAP FOR THE INTERVIEW

When you get the interview, the best resume format will help you and the employer in the interview.

Because a targeted resume style highlights the skills and experience relevant to the employer, your resume is a document you can easily reference during the interview. Having this reference sheet will give you extra confidence as you answer interview questions.
