5 important things to do before entering the Interview Room!

Yes, it's interview time and you have to get ready- mentally, emotionally, and physically!

The interview is the first step that everyone must cross successfully so as to secure the job one is seeking for. But how you should feel, behave, think and act before entering the room plays a major role in shaping the course of your interview. So here are the few tips from the experts to follow before entering the interview room so that you can nail it like a pro!

1. Enter with a “Smile”

Never underestimate the power of a big and bright smile. It makes you attractive, captivating and draws everyone’s attention towards your personality. Moreover, it reflects your positive spirit, zeal to work, and confidence. This is what the interviewers are looking for- A positive and cheerful person in their team so that the future engagements are interesting yet productive.

2. Stay peaceful and Calm

After entering you may feel threatened ( but you should not!) by looking at the enormous crowd who has gathered with the same objective as yours, but remember staying peaceful and calm is the key to success in any adverse situation. What could be more adverse than an interview? (lol) Try to be as easy and calm as before you enter the interview room. How can you do that?

  • Breathe deeply- deep breathing helps to lower the heart rate, controls the blood pressure, and relaxes your brain
  • Listen to your favorite music, which calms and soothes your mind and soul
  • Drink water as it hydrates and energizes your body and makes you feel fresh

3. Stay Focussed and undisturbed by your surroundings

As you relax and calm your brain, don’t forget you could be called anytime for the interaction in the interview room. So always stay focused and do not get along with the gossips taking place around you. But it does not mean that you aren’t aware of what is going on around you. You should be approachable yet distant, undisturbed yet attentive to what’s going on around you. The whole idea is to understand the fine line between being aware of the situation and being immersed in the situation.

4. Listen to the experiences of the candidates interviewed before you

Pay attention to the experiences narrated by the candidates who were fortunate or rather unfortunate to have an interview earlier than you. Remember you are listening to understand and not to get panic, in case you do not know the answers to those riddles. Also, try to analyze the kinds of questions asked by the interview panel. Generally, some sort of pattern is followed in the interview rounds.

  • Few general questions are asked, of which the most common are “Describe yourself”, “Tell about your hobbies/interests/likes”, “ Introduce yourself in few lines” and the like
  • Subject-specific questions, for which you have to be thorough with your respective subject matter
  • How you can prove to be a useful asset to the organization- for which you should have carefully read the website of the organization and find things you can contribute in an effective and productive way.

5. Posture! Posture! Posture!

After all, is said and done, you are now about to enter the interview room. Raise your head and straighten your back and be ready to spread the magic with your charisma. But don’t be…I repeat …don’t be overconfident… as overconfidence is always read clearly by those experienced souls who are waiting to dissect you in the interview room. A correct posture, with a decent smile, reflects a confident personality and zeal to work. Always remember, you have the power to shape the course of your interview. Whatever you pour out from your prestigious mouth, it will be used for/ against you, so as to validate its authenticity. To be clear, specific, and support your statements with authentic examples.
