1. Second-hand cloths

One needs less than 1000 Ksh to start selling second-hand clothes or mitumba.?

  • Visit the nearest clothes market ( gikomba, muthurwa, etc.).
  • Buy 10 second-hand T-shirts, each between 50 to 80Kshs.
  • Peddle them, selling each T-shirt at between 100 to 150Ksh. Apart from T-shirts, one can buy mitumba trousers, tops, skin tights, etc.?

This business can give you a profit equal to the amount you used to purchase the initial stock. Use the money to add more outfits.?

2. Peddling Fruits?

Selling fruits is one of the most marketable and easy-to-start businesses everywhere. After all, people must eat. To start this business, you need the following:

  • A transparent bucket (150Ksh)?
  • A knife (100Ksh)
  • Small polythene papers (100Ksh) and;?
  • Fruits. Visit the closest fruit market, and buy 1kg watermelon (150Ksh), 200ksh bananas (each 5 Ksh), and 100Ksh avocados (each 10Ksh).?

Slice the watermelon into 15 pieces, selling each at 20ksh. Sell the bananas for 10ksh each and avocados 20Ksh each.?

The fruits' sales will produce a profit double their buying price. Add more fruits to your stock.?

3. Peddling boiled Eggs

This business requires:?

  • A transparent bucket (150Ksh)
  • A bowl to put kachumbari (take one from home)?
  • Tomatoes and onions for making kachumbari (100Ksh)
  • A spoon for peeling off the eggshell and putting kachumbari and;
  • One tray of eggs (300Ksh)

- Boil the eggs in your house and place them in the bucket.?

- Slice and mix the onions and tomatoes. Put them in the bowl.?

- Peddle the eggs around the neighborhood and its environs.

Sell each egg at 20 or 25 Ksh. The first sale will give you around 600ksh. Buy another tray and continue selling. Soon you will be getting 300ksh profit daily.?

4. Teaching Others your Skill and Talents?

You can draw, sing, dance, write or do something better than others. You can capitalize on your skills and talents by teaching others for pay. This requires your phone (smartphone) and data bundles.?

Tutorship can be done in three ways: online, offline, and both.?

Offline?

This involves physically meeting and teaching clients one-on-one. To begin offline tutorship, you need to:

- Design a simple curriculum in your chosen field (drawing, e.t.c)

- Advertise your class (dancing, writing, etc.) on social media accounts.?

- Print leaflets and distribute them in your neighborhood (400Ksh)

- Establish a meeting place ( social grounds or borrowed room)

- Respond to prospective clients and begin tutorship

Online?

This involves teaching learners through social media, i.e., Youtube, Facebook, and WhatsApp.?

You need to:

- Outline what you will be teaching

- Create a WhatsApp or Facebook group for your course

- Open a Youtube account

- Use your phone to record videos of yourself teaching?

- Upload the videos on Youtube

- Market your Youtube account to reach 10k subscribers and 4,000 watch hours?to earn from Youtube.?

5. Selling Kahawa (Coffee)

This business is more fruitful early?in the morning and late in the evening. It involves touring the neighborhood and selling brewed coffee in disposable plastic cups. One can carry snacks like mandazi and doughnuts as some people prefer to eat while drinking.?

One needs:

  • A thermos flask (you can take it from home)
  • A packet of coffee (100Ksh)
  • A kilo of sugar (200Ksh)
  • A pack of disposable plastic cups (150Ksh)
  • Snacks (Buy 200ksh maandazis, each at 5Ksh)

How it goes:

- Make the coffee at your house. Put it in the thermos flask

- Put the snacks in a bucket?

- Peddle in the neighborhood and its environs.?

Sell?a full coffee cup at 10ksh and a mandazi at 10ksh. A 100Ksh packet of coffee and one kilogram of sugar should give you more than 100 cups, which is roughly 1,000Ksh in sales. The mandazi should give double their buying price (400Ksh). Invest the profits into a larger thermos flask, coffee, and sugar.

  • You should be flexible in your budget - Don't buy the equipment you can take from home, i.e., a bucket, bowl, spoon, etc.?
  • Item prices differ with locations. They may be cheaper or more expensive, so I have put the average prices.?
