The five things they’re doing that you need to start?today.?
You know that friend.
The one who shows up to every coffee date energized and focused. Who genuinely enjoys their healthy meals. Who somehow makes time for exercise without turning into a stressed-out mess. The one who seems to have unlocked the secret to making health look… effortless.
The truth: They weren’t born with a secret health gene. After diving deep into the psychology of thousands of these healthy people, I’ve discovered something that what looks like a “natural” ability is actually a brilliant set of learnable patterns. Fortunately, these patterns are available to everyone.
What truly sets them apart isn’t superhuman willpower or a perfect routine. It’s a fascinating psychological framework that transforms health from a daily struggle into a natural flow state. And once you understand it, everything changes.
1. They’ve Mastered the Art of Reinvention
Remember David Goggins? He transformed from a 297-pound pest exterminator into one of the world’s most accomplished Navy SEALs. But here’s the fascinating part: Before changing his body, he created a new identity called “Goggins”?—?an evolved version of himself who could achieve the impossible.
This isn’t just inspiration?—?it’s backed up by research. It involves reframing one’s identity to shift the perception of oneself to adopt a positive identity and narrative around one's health behaviors and capabilities. This is highly linked to maintaining weight loss and physical activity. Researchers call it the Maintain IT Theory and Social Identity Theory. When you shift your identity, your internal narrative and actions follow. For example, when faced with a formerly difficult nutrition challenge, your reinvented internal monologue now says, “I’m the kind of person who is intentional about my food choices.” Think of it like an actor becoming their character, except this character is your best self.
2. They’ve Unlocked Their Inner?Director
These health champions have mastered what psychologists call an “internal locus of health control.” They’ve discovered their power to write their own story. Instead of feeling at the mercy of circumstances, they’ve learned to become the director of their health journey.
This means that instead of opting for a fatalistic attitude, “I’m overweight, I've tried everything, I'm just fated to be unhealthy,” they adopt an attitude where they feel that their actions matter; their actions determine their fate to a large extent.
It’s not about controlling everything but embracing your incredible influence over your well-being. They’ve found that sweet spot between acceptance and action, and it’s transformative. Numerous studies have shown the link between a high internal locus of health control and healthier lifestyles.?
3. They Celebrate Tiny?Wins
These people haven’t mastered health through strenuous efforts. They’ve discovered the art of strategic success.
They live by what I call the “Victory Velocity” principle: Set goals you can achieve 80% of the time. Can’t hit 10,000 steps? Brilliant?—?start with 3,000. Then, hit the smaller goal 4 out of 5 days a week. Celebrate those wins. Then, increase the challenge slowly.?
This is how you create confidence in your ability?—?it’s a skill you build through a series of well-designed wins. Each small victory creates momentum for the next one.
4. They’ve Cracked the Motivation Code
Want to know the biggest myth in health? “Wait until you feel motivated.”. They’ve learned something revolutionary: Action creates energy.
They don’t don’t wait to feel like going to the gym?—?they’ve discovered that energy and motivation come AFTER you start moving. It’s like unlocking a perpetual energy source: action creates energy, which fuels more action.
5. They Realized No One Does It?Alone
Here’s the most empowering truth: These “naturally healthy” people aren’t doing it alone. They’ve created a support system that amplifies their success.
From workout partners to health coaches, trainers, and dieticians to help guide, instruct, and motivate. This is a 1+1 = 4 strategy- the community they’ve built to make healthy choices feel natural and enjoyable. The research confirms that people with robust support systems are more likely to create and maintain true lifestyle changes.
The Empowering Reality
Your energetic, healthy friend isn’t operating on a different playing field?—?they’ve just discovered these transformative patterns earlier.?
The good news is that you can too. Every single one of these patterns is learnable. None of them require unique genes or superhuman willpower. They’re available to anyone ready to discover them.
So start now. Don’t wait.?

3 个月The one line that I liked the most was, "Can’t hit 10,000 steps? Brilliant—start with 3,000." Every small step is bound to yield bigger outcomes. Thanks for sharing, Ravi.

3 个月I agree, identity is key. Instead of saying “I’m overweight” and identifying as overweight - shift your mindset to “my health is in my control.” Take responsibility and take action. Build confidence in what you can do about it and identify as someone who takes action. Small action steps at first and build on it - recognizing your wins along the way!
