5 Fu*king Minutes

It's late on a Saturday night. I was deep in meditation, and the words 5 fucking minutes kept playing over and over in my head. Normally when I meditate, I let go of any thought that comes to mind. But tonight, it came, it sat, and it spoke. This rarely happens so, I thought I'd explore the thoughts running through my head at this very moment.
I've been meditating for the majority of my life. It started out as a fascination, and eventually grew into a way of life. Today, I saw a commercial for an app for 5 minute meditation. And if you search, there is pretty much a ton of apps, programs and accessories to assist us with meditation. In no way shape or form, am I downing these tools. What I am more concerned with is, when did we become so busy that 5 minutes is the best we can do for a little self care? Adrenaline and distraction are the new norm. We caffeinate, over stimulate and are bombarded with the accessibility of information via our hand held devices. Many of us have lost the ability to just appreciate the moment.
I am totally in favor of anyone taking 5 minutes to refocus. I would however recommend building a life where one wouldn't have to negotiate 5 minutes for self care. Some of the most successful people I know have built into their daily schedule an afternoon nap. I know, shocking. Meeting a person who is worth millions, and responsible for so many, also takes daily afternoon naps. Self care is about self validation. Life and all of the problems and concerns will keep coming. So, we might as well learn to protect our time and make it sacred. Some of the best work that I have done, came when I was doing no work at all.
I know this may seem like a strange concept for some. But for others, there is no other way. Because peace should trump distraction. I realize that some are built for speed. I have no problem with that either. The point that I would like to make is, value yourself enough to carve out time just for you, because not every moment needs to be documented on social media. Some moments should be sacred. And furthermore, everyone deserves more than 5 fucking minutes.
