5 Free Web Based Learning Games That Will Inspire You

I love playing games. Whether it's card games like Cockroach Poker or digital games like Stardew Valley. Of course, there are games that go beyond just entertainment. Over the past few months I have created a curated collection of free web based learning games.
I use these games to practice skills I am currently building or have already built. For instance, when I was learning to position elements on a web page, I turned to the Flexbox Froggy game. You also can't forget other popular learning games like Duolingo for learning new languages.
You don't have to specifically look at learning related games for inspiration but it's interesting to go through them and see what works and what doesn't. Without further ado, here are 5 free web based games for learning that I have used in the past year.
1. Can't Unsee
Can't Unsee is one of my new favorite web based games for learning. In Can't Unsee you test your design skills by identifying the proper design. It will test your knowledge on styles, spacing, imagery, and more. You even get to compare the correct an incorrect answers by seeing them overlaid on top of each other.
2. The Interview
Ueno is one of my favorite creative agencies. You may even recognize their work on Articulate Rise. Ueno's client work is always super trendy and usable. When it comes to recruiting they created an extremely fun 3D game that can be played right in your browser. While it's not quite a learning game; the Interview puts you through a quirky experience where you learn about their culture and team. It oozes fun. There's a lot of humor. It's one of those experiences you want to share with everyone.
To learn more about how they came up with the idea check out their behind the scenes blog post.
3. Flexbox Froggy
A few years ago Flexbox came out for CSS. Flexbox allows you to write CSS that allows you to easily position elements in a website in various spots on the browser. In Flexbox Froggy you type code and the code positions the frog onto lily pads within the website or should I say pond?
4. Game Of The Year With Google
Before the start of 2019, a good learning friend of mine, Cath Ellis, shared the Game Of The Year With Google. In this game, you answer trivia questions based on Google Searches from 2018. You can even customize your host's voice. The host reads the questions to you and has some great personalized reactions to your interactions.
5. It's Centred That
Have you got a great eye for design? It's Centred That tests your eye for design by seeing if you can guess if a dot is centered within different shapes. What I love about this game is the feedback loops. Some of the commentary in the game is a bit cheeky and not for everyone but it's also what makes the game entertaining.
