If you're on a high protein, low carb diet, finding different protein at times can be difficult. Protein shakes and bars are expensive and eating chicken breast can super boring and errrm expensive.
There are some alternative sources that won't break the bank, but still keep you feeling full throughout the day.
1. Tofu: 100g of tofu will give you around 35g of protein. A block of organic tofu will cost you £1.50 for 400g. A 2 pack of organic chicken breast will set you back about £5. Meaning you'll pay £20 a kilo for chicken or around £5 a kilo for tofu. Marinade it or fry it in sesame oil until it's nice & crispy.
2. Cottage cheese: a 100g serving will give you around 35g of protein. Dress it up with some sweet chilli sauce or have it with a jacket potato.
3. Seitan: Half a cup of seitan will set you up for the day with 35g of protein. Haven't been to the Temple of Seitan in Hackney? I suggest you drop everything right now and go.
4. Prawns: 12 - 18 large prawns will give you around 33 grams of protein and keep you feeling full until lunch time.
5. Barramundi - a standard portion of barramundi will give you around 30 grams of protein. This fish is much lower in mercury than the main culprits and is a healthy source of omega 3 fats.
