#5 Fashion Logistics in IMEA: Meet Ashique uz Zaman
During the next weeks, we will delve into the world of Fashion Logistics across the globe within the Hellmann organization. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Ashique uz Zaman , based in Bangladesh, who spearheads the development of the fashion business within the IMEA region. With over 33 years of experience in the logistics industry, Ashique shares his journey from a shipping line to his current role at Hellmann Fashion Logistics.
Hello Ashique, can you share a bit about your background and how you got started in the logistics industry, particularly in the fashion sector?
My career started with a shipping line, and over the years, I transitioned to the Airline Cargo industry and then to Freight Forwarding. Working in Bangladesh, a major exporter for textiles and fashion, all my roles were inherently tied to the fashion industry. Hellmann Fashion Logistics has been the culmination of my journey, dedicating my efforts to this dynamic field.
What is your role within the team and in your region?
At the moment, I am responsible for the development of the fashion business in the IMEA region. I also provide support for operations and solutions needed by our customers, who are primarily based in the west, while IMEA serves as the manufacturing hub.
Tell us about how the IMEA region has developed in terms of fashion and fashion logistics.
Over the last few years, the IMEA region, which encompasses the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa, has undergone noteworthy transformations. Notably, the Middle East's substantial investments in logistics infrastructure have propelled it to become a global fashion center. In Africa, strategic efforts to overcome logistical challenges are evident through improvements in transportation networks. Meanwhile, the Indian subcontinent has experienced enhanced logistics, particularly in the domains of textile production and export. These developments underscore the region's commitment to growth and efficiency across diverse facets of the fashion industry.
What are the general challenges faced by your customers in your region?
Undoubtedly, one of the most pressing challenges in our region pertains to shipping logistics. The intricate process of procuring accessories and trims from the Asia-Pacific region, destined for the European Union and the Americas, poses a significant time constraint. The procurement of these vital components, which are intrinsic to the fashion production process, demands meticulous planning and synchronization. However, despite the careful orchestration, manufacturers often find themselves operating within an exceedingly tight window once the production phase is complete. The delicate balance of timelines in the shipping process underscores the need for strategic solutions and agile supply chain management in navigating the complexities of the fashion industry in our region.

We successfully implemented of a quality inspection solution for our customers at the origin of their supply chain. By conducting rigorous quality inspections early in the process, we not only ensured adherence to the highest standards but also generated significant cost savings for our clients at the destination. This forward-thinking initiative not only streamlined the inspection process but also demonstrated our unwavering dedication to enhancing efficiency and delivering value throughout the entire supply chain.
