5 Evergreen Social Media Marketing Tips
The tides in social media are always changing. A platform can be in one day, and out in a mere six months later. There can be one type of video that performs really well on Instagram, and a year later, those types of videos bomb. However, just because the trends are constantly changing, does not mean the psychology of being successful on social media does not. Here are a few tips for handling your social media that will apply no matter where the tides take the trends over the course of time.
- Have A Regimen - No matter what’s popular at the moment, it’s important to take time out of your day to focus on social media. Set aside time in your schedule on frequent basis to work on your social media and develop a checklist of things you need to do daily. Everyone I know that is super successful on social media works really hard on their content and strategy, and is very disciplined about executing that plan.
- Be A Listener - A lot of people think that being successful on social media simply means posting great content and that’s it. Yes, great content is important, but you know what else is important? Listening and being SOCIAL on social media. Think about this scenario for a second. You’re at a party, and you meet somebody that just talks… and talks… and talks. They don’t listen to anybody. They don’t let you speak. Are you going to want to talk to that person again? Absolutely not. The same thing applies on social media. Nobody wants to follow somebody that only talks about themselves. Make sure that you’re actively listening and engaging with other people’s content. Take the time to respond back to comments. Don’t be the person who talks about themselves all the time, and just expects everyone to listen.
- Done Is Better Than Perfect - This does not mean that quality is not important. Quality of what you post and say on social media is important. However, you can’t let it paralyze you from posting content on an ongoing basis. It’s important to get things out there in a timely fashion, and to not get too hung up on making it 100% perfect. Nothing is ever complete perfection and trying to get it there is a complete waste of time.
- Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket - Always member that MySpace was once the king of social media, and now most people don’t even know how to login on the site. It’s important to make sure that you’re giving attention to multiple platforms, while also building yourself out on any new relevant platforms that come along. As long as you make an effort to develop and build relationships with consumers and fans, rather than solely focusing on numbers, you’ll be fine on any platform.
- Embrace The Change - Platforms are always going to change and you just have to accept it. The better way to go with this is to not just embrace it, but to be excited about it. Don’t complain about the algorithm changes, but rather take the opportunity to figure out a new challenge when a social media platform launches a new tool. I personally live for the challenge and it’s what has kept me intrigued with social media for over a decade.
The best practices of different social media platforms are going to inevitably evolve over time, but these tips will stand the test of time in the social media space. As long as you hold a healthy perspective about how to approach social media, no matter what platform it is, you’ll be able to conquer any new platform or algorithm that comes your way. Don’t just accept change, embrace it and ride the wave. It’s what makes this whole world so exciting!
