5 Essential Tips for Effective Industrial Vacuum Conveying
We’re all familiar with household vacuums, but industrial vacuum conveying is a whole different game. Achieving efficiency and safety in industrial vacuuming requires skill and practice. I asked our engineers to share their top tips for successful vacuum operations:
- Let the Hose Breathe Our GWS vacuum machines work by mixing air and product at a ratio of about 200 parts air to 1 part product. To optimise this, avoid fully burying the hose in the material – allow some air to enter along with the product. Our handy "Fluidiser" hose-end attachment is perfect for this purpose.
- Avoid Blockages As a rule, vacuum items no larger than a third of the hose diameter, and steer clear of long objects like welding rods, which can twist and clog the hose.
- Minimize Bends Each sharp bend in the hose can reduce performance by up to 5%, so try to use straight segments whenever possible.
- Limit Small Hose Length Smaller diameter hoses reduce airflow and conveying efficiency. Use larger diameter hoses for as much of the distance as possible, keeping smaller hoses to a minimum.
- Prioritize Safety – No Horseplay Industrial vacuums are powerful tools. Avoid any horseplay: never put the vacuum hose near your eyes, ears, or mouth, and never reach into the hose.
