#3 Feedback/Creating an open culture
As humans, giving and receiving feedback is absolutely crucial for our own development, both personally and professionally. It enables us to identify areas of strength and also areas of weakness. Once feedback is provided, we naturally set goals, create action plans and begin to make changes that we feel would improve situations. However, when we enter the work environment, the way in which we give and receive feedback begins to change. The fear of upsetting a colleague or saying the wrong thing to your manager, typically means that we end up with closed, rigid cultures.
The good news is that creating an open culture, where feedback is the norm and is used strategically, doesn’t require a high amount of financial and time resource.
As a senior business leader, ask yourself the following questions, to qualify if feedback and creating an open culture should be a priority…
· As a business do we have processes and systems in place that will enable employees to provide feedback on how we could improve as a business and also, their employee experience?
· How regularly do we ask for feedback from employees and what is our approach to making changes off the back of that feedback?
