Want to succeed from the board room to the bedroom? Maintaining harmonious relationships at home and work is increasingly challenging yet vital for overall well being.
Thank you Kevin M. for giving me the ideas for this post.
Utilizing soft skills, particularly active listening can significantly enhance our relationships.
Yes there is a difference between hearing and ACTIVE LISTENING.
Here are five ways to leverage these skills to build better relationships, drawing on insights from experts and Top Voices on LinkedIn .
PRIORITIZE ACTIVE LISTENING:
Active listening involves fully engaging with the speaker, giving them your undivided attention, and demonstrating that you understand and appreciate what they are saying.
Jordan Belfort talks about this in depth in his book "The Way Of The Wolf".
It contrasts sharply with passive listening, where distractions might prevent full engagement.
By actively listening, you signal to the speaker that their thoughts and feelings are valued and understood, therefore deepening your connection. Who doesn't want to feel this way?
For instance, during a conversation, focusing solely on the speaker without interruptions or multitasking can make a significant difference in the conversation.
When my bride talks to me. I put the phone down take off my reading glasses and giver her my undivided attention which she deserves an appreciates.
EMPLOY NONVERBAL CUES TO SHOW ENGAGEMENT:
Your body language speaks volumes. Maintaining eye contact nodding and adopting an open posture can significantly enhance communication.
These nonverbal signals reinforce that you are fully present and engaged in the conversation, which is essential for effective listening and rapport, which I learned from Dr. Robert Cialdini .
UTILIZE REFLECTIVE LISTENING TECHNIQUES:

Reflecting or paraphrasing what the other person has said not only shows that you are paying close attention but also helps in ensuring that you actually understand what was being said.
It is a way of validating their feelings and experiences, which is crucial for effective communication and relationship building.
ASK OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS:
Never ask a question with a yes or no answer.
Asking questions that require more than a yes/no answer demonstrates your interest in understanding the other person's perspective thoroughly.
It encourages a deeper conversation and conveys that you value their opinions, insights, and experiences, building stronger relationships and trust, which is so crucial for building healthy relationships.
REMEMBER AND FOLLOW UP:
Showing that you remember details from previous conversations by following up on past discussions can significantly impact the quality of your relationships.
It also indicates that you not only listen but also CARE enough to retain and reflect on the information that was shared with you.
This action alone will reinforce the bond and trust between you and the other person.
I love the quote "People Don't Care How Much You Know, Until They Know How Much You Care."
SOOOOOOO....
By using these practices in all your daily interactions, you can significantly enhance your relationships at home and in the workplace.
REMEMBER, effective communication is about more than just exchanging information; it is about understanding, respect, and connections.
As always thank you :) for being a HUGE part of our success and letting us be a small part of yours.
