5 Days to Go! Charting the Future of Learning in an AI-Inspired World: A Pivotal Moment for Education Blog

As we stand on the threshold of a new era in education, the 15th Canadian EdTech Summit could not be more timely. This year, as the world converges on Toronto, we find ourselves at the intersection of innovation, AI, and the future of learning.

5 Days to Go! Over the course of three days, from October 31 to November 2, 2024, thought leaders, educators, and innovators from around the globe will gather at the Sam Ibrahim Innovation Centre at University of Toronto Scarborough to reimagine what education looks like in an AI-powered world.

It’s a pivotal time in education—a moment that demands the collaboration and collective vision of every stakeholder. As we embrace new technologies, we must not lose sight of our core mission: preparing future generations to thrive in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. The Summit brings together experts from diverse fields to share their insights on the transformative power of AI and its impact on learning environments, leadership, and educational equity.

As Nobel Prize Winner and UofT Professor Emeritus Dr. Geoffrey Hinton aptly described, we are living through a transformation akin to the second coming of the Industrial Revolution – but this time, “exceeding our intellectual capabilities”?" However, with great innovation comes great responsibility. Dr. Hinton’s call for caution in the face of rapid AI advancements serves as a timely reminder that while the opportunities are vast, we must approach this revolution with both excitement and measured awareness.

We are entering an age where AI will augment our abilities and transform how we teach, learn, work and lead. This summit is not just a celebration of innovation but an opportunity for us to come together and harness HC (Human Connection) to ensure that this transformation is equitable, sustainable, and beneficial to all learners.

Highlights of the Summit and #EdTechTOWeek Include:

AI & Education Leadership Panels: Engaging discussions on the role of AI in fostering leadership and driving digital transformation.

STEAM AI eSports Saturday Symposium and Showcase for Teachers: A groundbreaking look at the intersection of competitive gaming, AI, and education.

Exclusive Tours of the 'NEW' Sam Ibrahim Innovation Learning Centre, a local TDSB (my alma mater) high School, MindShare Work & Learning Space throughout #EdTechWeekTO.

Cross Canada Checkup Panel: A national perspective on the current state and future of EdTech in Canada.

We stand at a defining moment in education, and this summit is our chance to shape the future of learning. I challenge you to be fearless & join me along with Dr. Steve Joordens UofT Award-winning professor and conference Co-chair as we explore, innovate, and envision the possible.

I ask you the question, What's holding us back in Canadian education?
