5 CV MISTAKES TO AVOID IN 2021
If you haven't received an interview invitation yet, it simply means that your CV isn't enticing enough to attract the recruiters' attention.
Keep in mind that your CV is the initial point of contact between you and your next potential employer.
Your CV is an employer's first impression of you. Minor errors can jeopardize your chances of getting a job interview.
Many companies and hiring managers have expectations for what a CV should include, how long it should be and how easy it should be to read.
According to the Nestle recruiting team, the following are some CV errors to avoid in 2021:
1. Spelling & Grammar: Most hiring managers react badly to CV errors, regardless of how slight they look.
Recruiters have so many CVs to review that even the tiniest spelling error may prompt recruiters to toss your application into the "no" pile without further consideration, regardless of how qualified you are for the position.
In other words, you must examine your CV's grammar and spelling in addition to how you present your professional history, what fonts appear well, and how many pages you should utilize.
Proofread and revise your CV with a professional perspective at all times.
2. Wrong dates for work experience: Do you have any overlapping or strange dates on your CV? Take your time to check your CV dates.
Is it stated in your CV that your part-time experience is not for full-time positions?
Keep in mind that you are disclosing information to an outside person.
Ensure the dates correct? Have someone else go through your CV to ensure that you're communicating clearly.
If you are unsure of your past job dates, don't speculate. Contact your previous colleague or check your bank account information. This is critical.
3. Wrong contact details: Making typos with your contact information is a typical error that might harm your job hunt. If you enter an incorrect email address or phone number, you will lose your chances of receiving the job.
Many employers will not go out of their way to find you if they cannot contact you through your contact information because the job market is competitive. Before sending the CV, pay close attention to every detail. Make sure your phone number, email address, and address are correct.
4. Falsifying information: It is never a good idea to lie about a degree, skill, or experience. While many people exaggerate their hobbies, abilities, and achievements doing so is not suggested.
Hiring managers with extensive experience have seen it all. Many employers will not go out of their way to find you if they cannot contact you through your contact information because the job market is competitive.
The truth is that the interview session will expose the CV's lies. If you claim to speak French in your CV, for example, be prepared to do so on the day of the interview.
5. Wrong file format (e.g. GIF, MP4, JPG, PNG): It is generally the last item you consider when preparing a CV, but the file format you choose for your CV is critical.
It's best if you follow the CV format suggested in the job advertisement. Unless otherwise specified in the job advertisement, you should send your CV in WORD or PDF format.
Your CV is a personal marketing document that you use to sell yourself to potential employers. Before submitting your application, make sure you follow these steps.
These pointers will help you enhance your CV and increase your chances of success in the job market.
