5 Crucial Elements of a Speaker Intro ( set yourself up for success)

A good introduction will help to set the emotional state of the room so that you can most effectively be heard, and your information retained.

This is a very important part of your presentation. Here are 5 elements that will make your Introduction a great foundation for your success:

An effective intro is

1.    Easy to read aloud. Not copy from a website or linked in. Help the person reading your intro succeed.

2.    Short. Too long loses people and seems questionable.

3.    Not a history or excessive list of your credentials.  Your bio serves this purpose.

4.    Entertaining  It’s okay to add some levity or warmth. Your intro has its own voice. don’t be stale (relates to number one)

5.    Sets up your opening. Lead directly into your opening story or question.

Do not worry that all of your hard work and history won’t be appreciated if you don’t mention it all in your intro. Make them want to look you up. Seriously. I’ve done it. I bet you have too; been impressed by a speaker and pulled out your smart phone to Google them.  That is actually preferable in many ways than “firehosing” them with information before you even start!
