Fatty Liver Disease (FLD) is one of the biggest health challenges of our time with more than a billion people at risk of developing it and causing more than a million deaths per year. In the US alone, 72% of all liver transplantations for chronic end-stage liver disease are now due to FLD, a 90% increase from just 10 years ago.

Despite such shocking facts, most of us have not heard of FLD.?

1. How can such a widespread chronic disease go unnoticed?
2. Why are so few health clinicians, general practitioners (GPs) or family doctors unaware and unable to detect and treat FLD?

The answers start with understanding that FLD is a hidden disease. This means that we are asymptomatic until we reach the end-stage of the disease, called cirrhosis. At end-stage FLD our livers are mostly scar tissue. Stiff lumps that are unable to carry out its vital role in our body.

Three out of four people are not diagnosed before reaching the end-stage. At this point, 75% of people die within five years.
