What common challenges does your book help people to address?
Dynamic Reteaming is a helpful reference for people who have teams that are going through change that they’ve caused themselves, or change that is imposed on them from forces outside their team such as top-down reorgs.
What do you hope people will take away from reading your book?
The book shares practical tips and tricks for dealing with five types of team change:
There is also a section with specific tools for catalyzing larger reteamings.
What inspired you to start writing about the art and wisdom of changing teams?
I’ve been part of several successful startups that grew fast.. From 15 to 800 people, from 10 to 600 people, from 800 to 2000 people and more.? With all of this growth comes team and organizational change. You’re going through this at the same time you’re delivering software. In my experience, many of the books I would read asserted that the goal is to keep your teams stable or the same. However, whether its due to growth, attrition, the pursuit of learning and fulfillment, or something else, the norm is that your teams are going to change.? I like to say “team change is inevitable, you might as well get good at that.”? So my perspective is to shift the lens over to a more realistic vantage point and get good at team change while we’re building software that delights our customers. That’s more pragmatic than trying to control everything and keep people in the same teams.

How does your book reflect your personal experiences and the experiences of people you have worked with?
I’ve been in the software industry for 20 years so I include stories from my experience, and I interviewed colleagues around the world and used the combination as qualitative data to derive the five patterns of dynamic reteaming. The content of the book was emergent based on these things.
Where can people buy a copy of your book and learn more about it?
The second edition is available on Amazon (amazon.com) or direct from O’Reilly (oreilly.com) where you can also find it as an audiobook.

2 年My favourite things about Heidi’s book are it provides excellent diagrams throughout, and it provides clear situational guidance. This is what managers, Agile coaches and teams need in the trenches. Sometimes she reminds you to be intentional about things that should be obvious. You keep saying “Oh yeah, we really should try that” Example:
