5 Call-to-action mistakes that every writer should avoid

What is good content without a call to action? As a writer, there is a reason for each word you write. I read somewhere that while writing, every sentence has just one job; to prompt the reader to move to the next sentence. This on its own is a call to action. However, every sentence must collectively come together to lead to a CTA.?

A call to action can be as simple as; “Subscribe” “Follow” “Read the full blog”, etc. It is basically telling people what you want them to do with the information you have just provided. Contrary to what you might be thinking, people do not know what to do with the information. They are not entirely sure, so they need guidance from you.

If you are going to write a call to action, then you have to write it well. Here are 5 mistakes to avoid when writing calls to action.?

Having multiple calls to action:

Pick a struggle. When people are confused about what to do they end up doing nothing. So, before you put out content, decide what you want people to do with it. Do you want them to engage, click a link, subscribe, or buy? Do not put multiple calls in one post. Let them have a focus.

Wrong linking

Another mistake to avoid is wrong linking. If your link tag says; “Buy Here”, then make sure the link address is leading directly to your sales page. Do not put a “Buy here” link description that leads to the general home page of your site. The human attention span is reducing every year and not many people have the patience to start navigating around your site looking for where to find the exact action you want them to take. Make it simple and direct for them.

Whatever you do, double-check your links to ensure that the links are not broken. Putting a broken link is a huge turn-off for customers.

Hiding the call to action

The Call-to-action is one of the main reasons for making this post, so hiding it is totally unnecessary. When writing, make the call-to-action attractive and attention-grabbing. You can do this by using a different font, making it bold, or underlining it. Just make sure that it stands out from the rest of your text.

Weak call to action

Instead of using puns and long statements, go straight to the point. Use strong words that are attention-grabbing. Instead of “make your purchase by clicking this link” use “Buy now”.

No secondary placement

Do not be afraid to add your call to action more than once. Tell them in the middle of the content, and also remind them at the end.?

When you get your call-to-action strategy right, then achieving the goal of your content will be easy.?
