5 Books Every Husband Must Read

5 Books Every Husband Must Read

When you choose to get married you are choosing to play a long game of ongoing personal leadership development and growth. (Read now on my newsletter.)

You get to choose a marriage by design or by default.

If you choose by design you will invest in yourself and your marriage.

If you choose by default you will drift off a cliff of boredom and mediocrity.

If you are still reading I would encourage you to choose one book today from this list and start reading and growing.

I want to share five books that have transformed my leadership as a husband.

Below are five books for any husband who wants to grow in marriage, life, and leadership.

  1. Wild at Heart by John Eldredge: I read this book in 2001 and I continue to reread it and learn new principles every year to keep developing. I have been honored to host John on different occasions on my podcast and return to a theme about playing and having fun is an essential ingredient in successful marriages.
  2. His Need Her Needs by William Harley: When Jessica and I got trained in Dynamic Marriage in 2008 this was and is the ongoing foundation of that marriage journey. Knowing each other's love busters and habits will foster awareness and curiosity.
  3. No More Mr Nice Guy by Robert Glover: This is an essential read for people pleasing, self-sabotage, and not communicating clearly as a husband. I have passive-aggressive tendencies and this continues to be a good reminder with his practical suggestions on ways to break free.
  4. Failure of Nerve by Edwin Friedman: If you want to lead at the next level you need to read this book. We live in a quick-fix culture that expects everyone to cave into their belief system; ie cancel culture. This book will help you build emotional resiliency.
  5. Passionate Marriage by David Schnarch: This takes marriage work to a deeper level and moves to what great marriages do really well. Our culture sells quick sex that is filled with pseudo-passion. David says that the best sex will be when you know yourself, are deeply authentic, and will probably be in your cellulite years.

The choice is yours. Delete this email or order one book to grow to the next level.

My wife and I continue to grow by reading various leadership and marriage books. This past week my mentor mentioned one to me that we ordered and will begin this weekend together.

If you want to accelerate your growth as a husband join the Champion Husband 30 Day Challenge that starts on July 11th.

You will get two decades of growth from a marriage therapist, executive coach, and spiritual guide compressed into a 30-day intensive.

Wild at heart has caught a lot of flack over the years but it really helped me early on in adulthood!

I've read 2 of these - looks like I've got more reading to do! Thanks for sharing Lantz!

I’ve read the first two. Read Eldredge starting with Sacred Romance. Heard him speak at a managers conference. Even got to meet him and chat a bit when he released Wild At Heart. Now, years later, still read Wild once per year as a refresher. I probably bought and gave away dozens of that book.
