Building Your Coping Muscles
“Looking behind I am filled with gratitude.?Looking forward I am filled with vision.?Looking upwards I am filled with strength.?Looking within I discover peace.” -Native American Proverb
If you follow illness to its source the majority begins with an inability to manage stress.
Illness is compounded every time you avoid dealing with your feelings and/or emotions and turn to something outside of yourself to cope.?When you repeatedly resist feeling uncomfortable and finding balance within yourself it will lead to illness.
Learning to manage your uncomfortable feelings and emotions as they happen will prevent dis-ease in the future.?This is called coping.?
Feeling uncomfortable is a normal human feeling.?It is expected that life will present challenges and cause you to feel bad and experience stress when experiencing something new, disappointment, change, challenges, and many other human events.
Avoiding feeling and dealing with emotions by; eating, sleeping, gambling, consuming alcohol, doing drugs, being busy, working, smoking, shopping, having sex, social media, or t.v. binges, etc. ?Avoiding feelings repeatedly leads to imbalance which contributes to dis-ease.

5 Action Steps for Building Your Coping & Resilience Muscles
1.??????Commitment- It is imperative to learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.?When you feel uncomfortable commit to staying present and refrain from avoiding the feeling of being uncomfortable.
2.??????Breathe- Practice taking deep breaths.?Breathe into any feelings of discomfort.?Notice where in your body you feel uncomfortable and breathe there.?Use your breath to release the tension inside your body.?Imagine your breath is a magnet as you inhale imagine your breath going to all of the tension and with the exhale you release all of the tension you are holding in your body.
3.??????Move- Movement is super important! When you feel uncomfortable or feel bad do whatever it takes to be active – dance to a song, go on a walk, do jumping jacks, go to the gym, play a game, etc. Get up and move your body.?Movement is helpful for coping.
4.??????Talk about it- Often sharing how you feel out loud with someone else who is supportive helps with coping.?It is easy to build things up in your mind and when you talk it out, it feels more manageable plus you do not feel alone in your experience.
5.??????PRAY- Prayer concentrates your energy within.?It helps to build your inner strength and helps to affirm your capacity to be the source of your own healing.?
These actions are simple but not easy to implement. Remember going to the gym once does not produce muscles it takes consistency, same with building resilience it takes practice.
I am rooting for your success!
