4th of July in Chicago
Poem by Alexandra Santos

4th of July in Chicago

In the heart of Chicago, a city alive,

Where the 4th of Julys truly thrive,

A summer symphony of red, white, and blue,

Where dreams and freedom dance anew.

On Lake Michigan's shore, the skyline aglow,

A canvas of fireworks, a dazzling show,

Exploding bursts of colors, high and wide,

Reflecting in the water, a mirrored pride.

From Navy Pier to Grant Park's open space,

Faces adorned with joy, a patriotic embrace,

Picnics unfold, blankets on the green,

Laughter and cheer, a vibrant scene.

The air, filled with scents of barbecued delight,

Hot dogs, hamburgers, a mouthwatering sight,

Children's laughter, echoes of glee,

As they chase fireflies, wild and free.

A melody of music floats through the air,

Jazz and blues, a soulful affair,

The rhythms intertwine, like hearts beating fast,

A celebration of unity, a moment that will last.

The skyline adorned with flags, a grand display,

A symbol of pride, waving bright and gay,

Each star and stripe, a reminder profound,

Of the land we cherish, on this sacred ground.

And as the night descends, the fireworks cease,

But the spirit of freedom never finds release,

For in the heart of Chicago, on this special day,

The 4th of Julys linger, in memories they stay.

So, let us gather together, hand in hand,

In this city of dreams, where dreams expand,

For Chicago's 4th of Julys, forever they'll be,

A summer celebration of liberty.
