#44 — You see too well!

Visionary leaders need help. They can see and perceive too well.
Problem alert!
Going Deeper: competing visions of human rights.
Visionary leaders are often surrounded by talented people who see a couple of items very well—likely better than that visionary leader does.
This disconnect between the thoroughness of what talented colleagues see on the periphery of the visionary leaders' broader and less detailed spectrum of perception can lead to a lack of appreciation for each other and a stifling of needed communication.
Often tied to this problem is the difficulty of two visionaries in one enterprise. In time, one makes way for the other's stronger personality or voice, or one moves on and becomes competition at another organization where they can now articulate and live into their vision.
It is a real dilemma to hear and benefit from what others see so well while not missing opportunities that others cannot yet see.
This dilemma is the stuff of executive leadership. Welcome here!?

Climate Change wokeness meets philosophy as Jenny Odell invites us to work through her anxiety. The first hundred or so pages felt more like a therapy session than insight, but the book got better, more reflective, and more inviting to the reader's own reflective process in the last two-thirds of the book.
I doubt the book will convince people to move to a life beyond a productivity culture. Ironically, Ms. Odell is a prolific influencer in this space. However, given this book, we can receive the invitation to have a life more of our choosing.
