43 Years ago today.....
On August 1st, 1981 just after midnight MTV went live and changed the way people enjoyed music as they could now "watch" their favorite songs. In the years that followed many people would host "MTV parties" in their college dorm room, apartment, house, etc. and invite friends to enjoy food and drink and watch the latest videos.
The first song played on MTV was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. It turned out to be prophetic as a number of listeners would eventually get their music by watching it on TV as opposed to listening to the radio. Eleven years later in 1992 MTV would air the first version of the "Real World" which some people point to as the beginning of reality TV.
For those of you who grew up in the MTV era, here's the original video and I hope it brings back some good memories. For those of you who didn't enjoy listening to the first song ever aired on MTV.
