#4/10 learnings from re-inventing workshops in times of Corona

Team work is often the source of inspiration and engagement – but not regarding the screen, the camera and the mic in a live online session:

This is not the time for sharing

This learning is very simple: when participating in a live online session, participants should be on their own individually in front of their respective device. It might at first appear “logical” for colleagues from the same location (think non-social-distancing-times) to gather in a meeting room and jointly connect to the online session. Don’t – simply don’t.

The engagement and focus of each individual is inversely proportional to the number of people per one keypad/camera/mic. Or, in layman’s terms – the more you are per input device, the more will drift away. And even if everybody in a small group huddled together stays focused – there is no benefit in having side discussions among the ones sharing a physical location.

Any thoughts on this? I’d love to hear both agreement and diverging views.

Overview of all previous learnings:

#1: Blended is the key

#2: The 120/5 rule

#3: It’s probably new for the client, too
