4 years on: Krish's journey

4 years on: Krish's journey

Next up is Krish who joined exactly one week after me and has had a successful rollercoaster of a journey since then!

What were you doing before joining Harnham?

I had just graduated from studying Finance and Business on a football scholarship in New York. As I had been in America for 4 years, I'd come back home to London and was looking for jobs.

Why did you decide on recruitment?

I wasn't looking for a recruitment job necessarily, but I came across it on Linkedin and then started speaking with Rec2recs. After doing some research into the pros and cons of the industry I realised it seemed better suited to me than say banking or finance and started interviewing at a few different companies. And it's gone pretty well since.

What is your role at Harnham?

I joined in the Corporate Accounts team working across every single market that Harnham recruits in within Data Analytics. Now I'm one of the managers in that team – working across our largest clients in UK and EU and I'm currently managing 2 people with room to grow!

When you were interviewing, how did you decide Harnham was the place for you?

As I was working with a Rec2rec I had been interviewing at quite a few different recruitment agencies across London and getting to finals for them all. But the interviews all felt very transactional and even going into the offices I wasn't getting a feel for the culture. At first I wasn't sure about Harnham as it was a longer commute than the rest, but I'm so glad I went to the interview. It was evident that Harnham had loads to do outside of work, like the football and netball teams, there were loads of incentives too to reward hard work and the little soft touches made a difference to make me feel welcome before even getting an offer. Wimbledon is also an amazing location, so all those things sold it for me.

What has been a personal highlight throughout your career here?

Definitely hitting the winner's trip to Ibiza this year! Then multiple lunch clubs I've been on, I've actually banned myself from them because I end up going out out afterwards with my mates and buying everyone drinks so it gets expensive! Then another big highlight was billing £300k last year after coming back from the furlough.

What's been your biggest challenge or setback to overcome?

Sometimes it's those weeks or months where nothing goes your way and you've got no deals or splits coming in. Especially coming back from furlough, it was tough to build everything back up again but I adapted pretty quickly and got back into the swing of things.

When you're not recruiting what do you get up to?

I play badminton every Monday and football every Tuesday. I love going to brunches and I've made a good circle of friends at Harnham, a couple of them are coming to my wedding too. We also have the 'Patel Lunch Club' where we book a half day on Friday and take ourselves out for lunch somewhere nice in London.

Finally, if you had one piece of advice for someone starting their career in recruitment, what would it be?

Just stick it out, and don't be overwhelmed once you're in. You just have to overcome any bump or hurdle then the world is your oyster. It sounds cliché but the money I've earnt is life changing. I have now bought a house, I'm getting married and have a sports car at the age of 28, which I never thought I would have. So definitely, sticking it out and really enjoying the good times when they come which is more frequent now and enjoying the rewards.
