Help strengthen the future of education in Australia
The Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD) initiative helps us understand Australia’s teaching profession by providing greater insight into teaching loads. It also provides insights into gaps in qualifications and specialisations, the number of teachers planning to stay in or leave teaching, and whether new graduates will meet future workforce needs. Understanding the challenges and opportunities faced by Australia’s educators means we can identify solutions to better support the profession.

Leadership & Management, Early childhood education care, Disability, Aged Care & Mental health
2 年Kindergarten and preschool services are struggling to employ qualified teachers and the initiation of the 3 year kinder project in services are facing many difficulties. This is not new to us. Overseas graduates joining the work force is a good strategy but the skill sets they need to achieve to actively work in early childhood sector isn’t in the tertiary education curriculum. Services are struggling at the moment fit new graduates without basics to run a preschool or kindergarten services have a load of boxes to tick in regs. First aid qualification is not mandated for VIT holders but overseas graduates holding g VIT have no clue of managing a sick child or medication. Basic work safe strategies, health and safety inclusion support, food safety standards, child safe practices, mandatory reporting …. We are still hiring teachers without any of those but VIT. I strongly believe this skill gap should be addressed thoroughly before major damages starting to occur, more specifically stand along kindergartens and preschool are more at risk.
