4 Ways To Start Your Own Recruiting Business

4 Ways To Start Your Own Recruiting Business

There are plenty of pros and cons to running your own recruiting business. The one thing I truly miss is being a part of a team within a company, growing with others and that part of things. BUT having your own business sure gives you a level of freedom you would never get with a corporate role.

It's a preference thing but if you have that itch to start your own recruiting business, there is absolutely a path for you to do it.

Here are the first check boxes you need to write down on that yellow note pad:

  1. Get a website. I haven't personally used SquareSpace or any of the free services but they always have something missing. There's always something "off" about it. It's best to buy a Wordpress theme and pay a freelancer from UpWork to do it for a hundred bucks. The website will make you look professional and will also give you a little confidence. When it's done, you can stand back with hands on your hips and admire the business starting to take shape.
  2. Pick your niche. You know how to recruit already, right? Now you need a machine that can get you clients. Telling someone you specialize in a specific role within a specific city helps build confidence. Imagine someone looking for a truck repair man and you can tell them you only work on "2010 Ford F150's?" It means you know that truck inside out, down to every detail. It works the same when you tell a tech company that you focused on React Software Engineers.
  3. Get social proof. If you notice a trend with these tips, it's sales. All recruiters would be out of their cubicles if they could start a business. You need to get your first client. Leverage your existing relationships to gain a client. Try sales. Or, you can work at a low rate to get your first one on the board. Kick ass for them, fill their pipeline, then ask the client to shoot over a testimonial or fill one out on Yelp, Facebook, etc.
  4. Build a sales process. You need this drawn out before you get things moving. Read blogs that give you insight on the entire sales process. Are you going to spend some marketing dollars? If not, you'll need to send cold emails & cold InMails just like you do candidates. Then set up your email drips. Remember, all it takes is one or two great clients!

If you're a recruiter looking to start your own business, you can start it now with Bendaygo.com. Join our small team to log on, view open reqs, submit candidates and earn an average of $12.5K per placement.
