4 Ways To Quickly Become An Authority In Your Coaching Niche

4 Ways To Quickly Become An Authority In Your Coaching Niche

People naturally gravitate towards authority figures because of the reputation they have for quality, depth and clarity of advice they provide.

By following the right strategy, anybody with enough determination, interest, and patience can become a highly trusted expert.

The benefits of establishing yourself as an authority figure in your niche include the potential for a steady stream of leads, invites to speaking engagements and interviews, and other profitable business opportunities that often tend to come your way without much overt effort on your part.

The facts are that people will listen to you, and follow you if you are capable of solving a problem for them. You just have to find ways to inspire confidence in them.

Here are just four simple ways for establishing your authority in your coaching niche.

1.      Share your “I was just like you” story

This approach is so simple that it is often overlooked as a valid strategy.

Basically though, it’s about being relatable with your audience.

It’s about saying “I know how you feel because I was just like you. For a long time I struggled to do….or struggled with…(this problem). Then I discovered… (describe the solution you discovered to the problem you share with your audience), and as a result.

Because you have been through the same things your audience is experiencing and have since found a solution that worked for you, you can inspire trust and confidence in others.

As you share how you successfully implemented your problem, your audience begins to develop the belief that as a result of your experience you can coach them through this too.

2.      Be the reviewer or researcher

An authority is always on the cutting edge of knowledge in their chosen field. This first of all means making time to know about and research trends and important happenings within your niche.

You can get this information from a wide variety of resources such as reading trade magazines and blogs, networking with other authorities in your niche, and staying involved in online conversations.

The next step is to then sift through this information and hone in on the most relevant and useful parts for your target audience. Once you’ve done that you need to communicate the most useful and relevant parts to your audience through blog articles, social media groups, via interviews and podcasts etc

When you consistently do this, you create a body of evidence for everyone in your niche to see that you are someone who is definitely in the know and who needs to be followed.

3.      Positioning yourself as the expert

Expertise is a very subjective thing. One definition of an expert is “Someone who is very knowledgeable about or skilful in a particular area”.

Clearly there is no way for us to know everything. There will always be new ideas and ways of doing things evolving, and there will always be someone who knows more than us or who is more skilful at what they do than we are.

Perhaps one way of positioning yourself as an expert in your niche could therefore be that someone who knows 5% more than what 95% of the people in your niche don’t know.

This follows on from the previous point about being the researcher or reviewer.

Make the effort to know a little more than what others know in your niche and you’ll create authority.

4.      Leverage the expertise of others

There are a variety of ways you can do this.

For example, conducting interviews with experts or leaders in your niche.  Use your network of contact to seek out and make contact with these people. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how many people are willing to do this.

The benefit to them is they are expanding their reach and fame. The benefit to you is that you gain additional, expert level information that you can use to assist in content or product creation for your own business.

Beyond that, there is authority by association. That is, your gain additional authority because your audience actually sees the association you have with other experts and leaders in your niche.

You might also consider doing joint ventures with experts and leaders in your field. Basically, they might have the expertise but not have the access to a network of contacts or an extensive email list. You on the other hand don’t have the same level of expertise, but you do have the contacts.

The bottom line in all this…if you want to become an authority in your niche, you must always offer great value to your audience.
