4 Ways to Positively Influence Your Team
Mike Harbour
Through the implementation of our Quit Losing Talent Framework, we help organizations add millions to their bottom line by developing their leaders and fostering company cultures that WIN, KEEP, and INSPIRE employees
The world's greatest leaders are those with the greatest influence.
?
Personally, I would define that as the ability to bring out the best in others, getting them to follow your lead, all while making them feel greatly valued.
?
Now, you aren’t the same type of influencer as those you work above, under, or around, but you can always learn from other's abilities.
?
Let’s look at 4 different ways leaders influence their teams and how you can implement each one into your leadership approach:
?
1. The Supporter
The supportive leader is the one who always has your back and is willing to help you succeed however they can. Most likely a soft-hearted person who is highly passionate about helping others reach their potential.
?
2. The Teacher
The teacher doesn’t like to leave people guessing. They are clear in their direction and instruction so their team is best equipped to succeed.
?
3. The Motivator
The motivating leader puts others in a position to be successful by looking for things others don’t see in themselves. Motivators are willing to push people past their comfort zones.
?
4. The Role Model
The role model is NOT the “do as I say, not as I do” leader. The role model sets the standard and lives the standard to represent a clear expectation of excellence for their people.
?
Which one are you?
?
Most likely, you favor one more than the other 3, but if you want to grow your influence, you should strive to be excellent in all 4.
?
Chances are, the people you lead don’t all respond best to one way of communication.
?
The best leaders, the ones with the greatest influence, are situational. They know their people, their personalities, and their learning style, and lead in a way that will influence the quickest, most effective response.
?
Consider these 4 approaches, and brainstorm some ways you can begin to implement them into your leadership!
?
On this week’s episode of the Lead Up Podcast, special guest Glenn Parker and I further discuss these 4 approaches and how leaders can use each one to grow their positive influence!
